PUBLIC COMMENTS Florence Leach invited the Council and residents to attend the Tri-City Veterans Memorial Day Program at the Santa Ana Cemetery on May 28, 2001. 90.13. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS Councilmember Alvarez • Thanked Jim Gilliam for a tour of the Artists Village on May 5, 2001 • Congratulated the Santa Ana Arts program for the successful kick- off for the "Imagination Celebration" Expressed disappointment that seven Harry Potter books were distributed by the Library Commissioners to the Councilmembers with 75% of the pages in the books missing. She stated that it was not necessary to ruin the books in order to make the point that the Library was in serious need of additional resources • Asked the City Manager and the Council to address the Library needs in the upcoming budget discussions • Asked that City Hall change sources of energy by using generators during the summer months • Announced that the Technology Committee held its first meeting on May 2, 2001 and invited residents to visit the City's updated Web site and give feedback as to suggestions for further improvements • Wished Santa Ana residents a Happy Mother's Day Councilmember Christy • Announced that she had represented Santa Ana at the successful groundbreaking for the Multi -Cultural Center and the new Vietnam Memorial in Westminster • Asked that the City Council adjourn in the memory of Nora Mae Clark, a long time resident of Santa Ana. Mayor Pro-Tem McGuigan • Announced that she had attended a Toyama Karate -do event at Santa Ana College on May 6, 2001 and that this event was supported by the Friends of Parks and Recreation CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 171 MAY 7, 2001 COMMENTS • Announced that Mater Dei High School was holding a Special Olympics on May 12-13, 2001 Councilmember Bist • Noted that she was also shocked to see a torn up Harry Potter book, but that the Library Commission made a good point in bringing the issue to the attention of the City Council • Noted that there were three Cable Board vacancies and asked that the respective Councilmembers make their nominations quickly • Congratulated everyone involved with the opening of the Emmanuel House., a new facility in the French Park Neighborhood for homeless persons with HIV • Announced that the Historical Society was selling parts of old houses on Saturday, May 12, 2001 at the Howe -Waffle House Councilmember Solorio • Congratulated the Mayor and all involved with the opening of the Emmanuel House • Announced that the Children's Hospital of Orange County has produced a video entitled "Three Tragic Seconds" on child drowning prevention available in English and Spanish • Wished residents a Happy Mother's Day Councilmember Franklin • Noted that he represented the Council at a meeting of the Board of Education commemorating the Workability Program which is well known for its adult transition and job training programs • Congratulated the Floral Park Neighborhood Association for its successful home and garden tour Mayor Pulido • Thanked staff who were involved in the opening of the Emmanuel House and noted that this project was an example of patience triumphing ADJOURNMENT — 8:23 p.m. - to May 21, 2001 at 5:30 p.m. in the Police Chiefs Conference Room, 60 Civic Center Plaza, 41h Floor, Santa Ana, California In memory of Nora Mae Clark Patricia E.
