STREET
Filed by the City of Santa Ana to re-name an existing park site at 1009
North Custer Street from Logan Park to Chepa's Park.
Recommended action approved by the Board of Recreation and Parks at
its meeting of March 28, 2007 by a vote of 6-0 (Havlik and Leon absent)
Recommended action approved by the Planning Commission at its
meeting of May 14, 2007 by a vote of 7-0
Samuel Romero, Alex Vega and Joe Andrade spoke in support of the re-
naming of Logan Park and thanked the Council for recommending and
approving the change to Chepa's Park

Thomas Gordon passed out photos illustrating a park area with heavy
graffiti; Stanley Fiala expressed general concerns and Alex Vega
congratulated staff for its proactive graffiti removal program
90.B. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS
Councilmember Tinaiero
· Thanked the Council and Staff for all the efforts to provide after school
sports programs
· Announced that there were plans to open a library in the west end of
the City
· Announced that there were many exciting projects and programs
planned for the youth of the City in the summer

• Congratulated the Executive Director of the Parks Agency for the
brochure outlining programs and classes for the Summer/Fall 2007;
asked staff to ensure that these brochures were available in the public
schools
Councilmember Benavides
Asked staff to look at the graffiti at Friendship Park and advise
neighborhood leaders relative to the best way to remove the graffiti
and presence the mural
• Noted that he toured the work center at the depot and was very
impressed with the services provided by staff and that staff members
were very committed to help the community
• Noted that he learned that the State Employment Office has
counseling services at the work center and this is a very vital resource
to our community

Wished all fathers a Happy Father's Day
Noted that the City has been very proactive related to the crime issues
in the City and cited the recent gang injunction, the adding of 11 new
gang officers to the Santa Ana Police Department, the creation of the
EPIC Commission, and the money that the State will be providing to
the City to combat gang activities
• Congratulated the Santa Ana Police Department on its plans to provide
youth athletic activities at the McFadden Center
• Cited statistics from a recent FBI report which notes that Santa Ana is
the third safest City of its size in the Country
• Congratulated Fire Chief Phil Garcia who has just accepted a job in
Sonoma
Councilmember Bustamante
• Cautioned that Santa Ana can not be compared to small cities when
looking at statistics but should be compared with cities of similar size
• Encouraged parents to stay active with their children and to keep
informed of all of their activities
Councilmember Martinez
• Thanked Assemblymember Solorio and Chris Townsend for all their
efforts in obtaining additional funding to combat crime from the State
• Congratulated the police department on the proposed athletic
programs at the McFadden Center
• Encouraged residents to get involved in the working groups created by
the EPIC Commission
• Wished all fathers a Happy Father's Day

COMMENTS
Councilmember Sarmiento
• Announced that "Sunset at the Zoo" would be held at the Santa Ana
Zoo this Sunday starting at 5:30 P.M.
• Noted that there are some children who do not like organized team
sports, but do like playing ball with friends in their yard or on the street;
he stressed the importance of maintaining a safe environment to allow
all children an opportunity to participate in sports activities.

• Noted that the U.S. Tennis Association is assisting in organizing a
tennis program in the City this summer
