for the purchase of 13 police patrol
The City's Fleet Maintenance Division maintains a replacement schedule for
police patrol type vehicles. The vehicles, which operate a minimum of 8-12
hours per day in urban conditions, are evaluated based on mileage, age and
increased downtime. As a result of this evaluation, 13 vehicles, the
remaining 1997 black and white and 12 vehicles purchased in 2000, have been
identified and approved for replacement for fiscal year 2007-2008. All
those identified for replacement are assigned to the patrol division.
Additionally, the Fleet Division reviews the acquisition in accordance with
the City's Hybrid and Alternative Fuel Vehicle Acquisition Policy.
Currently, hybrid vehicles are not available in the Full-size/Large class
category that includes the Ford Crown Victoria sedan.
Santa Ana City Ordinance No. NS-2312 authorizes the City to purchase
against contracts from any public agency utilizing a competitive bid
process. The County of Los Angeles contract with Wondries Fleet Group for
police patrol sedans was awarded as a result of open, competitive bidding,
and meets the City's requirements.
