WORKFORCE INVESMENT BOARD ACTION At its Regular Meeting of July 13, 2007, by a vote 19:0 (Chapman, Chen- Lee, de Leon, Lin, Martinez, Quarles, Wadhera, Ward absent) the Workforce Investment Board recommended that the City Council approve the Demand Occupation List for Program Years 2007-2008 and 2009. DISCUSSION The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) requires that training services provided under WIA must be linked to occupations that are in demand in the local area. After conferring with the State Employment Development Department, the Labor Market Information Division and using the new 2004-2014 occupational employment predictions, the Employer and Customer Services Committee of the Workforce Investment Board has developed the proposed Demand Occupation List (Exhibit 1). The Demand Occupation list is updated every two years and can be modified at any time to either add or delete an occupation. This list is utilized by the case managers at the City of Santa Ana WORK Center to assist customers in making informed choices when selecting occupations for vocational training. The Workforce Investment Act, 1998 requires Workforce Investment Boards to regularly approve and update a Demand Occupation List for their local areas. 19D-1 Demand Occupation List August 20, 2007 Page 2 The proposed Demand Occupation List fulfills the requirements of the WIB and once approved will be distributed to customers at the Santa Ana WORK Center.
