REASON FOR CHANGE
The Flower Street Bridge is more than 70 years old and accurate as-
built information was not available. After demolishing the sidewalk and
girder on east side of the bridge, it was discovered that an old
underground telephone duct, whose exact location was not shown on the
original plans, would interfere with the new girder for the widened
bridge. Due to its fragile state and the numerous wires inside, this
duct could not be relocated. As a result, the girder had to be revised
to a different shape with added reinforced steel to straddle over the
duct. The new girder is 160 feet long, 4 feet deep and 6 feet wide. Due
to this change, the existing abutment walls at both ends of the bridge
could no longer be used to support the new girders. They were
demolished and replaced with new walls.
AGREED PRICE _ $50,471
FISCAL IMPACT
The cost for the change order is estimated at $50,471. Funds are
available in the Measure M Turn-back Fund (account no. 32-551-6631).
