DISCUSSION
In 2006 an injunction against members of the ~~Santa Nita" gang was granted
by the court to combat crime perpetrated by gang members within an
approximate ~ square mile of Santa Ana. There were 133 documented gang
members enjoined in the original gang injunction. The "Santa Nita" gang
has been responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime in this
neighborhood. The California Emergency Management Agency has awarded the
Police Department grant funding in the amount of $30,000. This funding
will be utilized to pay for overtime to conduct enforcement operations
within the designated Safety Zone for any injunction violations and to
collaborate with the Orange County District Attorney's Office to pursue
prosecution for all violations of the court order. The objectives of this
enforcement include continued reduction in Part 1 UCR crimes, gang nuisance
activity, and overall crime.
