Use caution when opening attachments or links. TO: MAYOR, COUNCILMEMBERS, CITY MANAGER, CITY ATTORNEY ALL: At our regular meeting last month a vote was taken about the above proposal that is making ifs way around City Hall. Our group was unanimous in its opposition to any such proposal to extend Measure X, or in any way offer more sales taxes to be foisted upon our citizens and the business community. This is an opportunity for Santa Ana to begin to become more competitive as a retail destination. It is time that some fiscal constraint be exercised and for the city to live within its means. We believe that if our retail business' are more competitive hopefully we will be rewarded with greater sales tax revenue In any case measure,X needs to sunset as a it was originally intended. We hope that you will carefully consider our deliberations and our encouragement to the council. Use caution when opening attachments or links. Dear Santa Ana City Council, My name is Kaela Ghassemieh, and I live in Ward 5 in the Washington Square neighborhood. I am writing to urge you to prioritize the acquisition of the proposed park site in our community. Washington Square is a vibrant, family-oriented neighborhood, but it currently lacks a dedicated park or accessible green space. As a parent of a young child, this is something we feel every day. There are no nearby places for children to safely play, for families to gather, or for neighbors to connect outdoors. Creating a park here would directly support the City’s Parks Master Plan goal of 1.5 acres per 1,000 residents, and provide much-needed open space for over 2,000 residents. It would improve quality of life, support children’s development, and strengthen the sense of community that already exists in our neighborhood. This is also a time-sensitive opportunity. With the property now being marketed to developers and the potential for increased residential density, there is a real risk that this land will be lost to development before the City can act. While housing has its place, this particular site represents a rare chance to create lasting public benefit in a neighborhood that is currently underserved when it comes to parks. I respectfully urge you to:  Prioritize this property for acquisition  Allocate funding in the upcoming budget  Act quickly to secure this space for a neighborhood park Washington Square residents strongly support this project, and many of us are deeply concerned about losing this opportunity. A park would serve current families and future generations in a meaningful and lasting way. Thank you for your time and consideration. Washington Square is a community-focused neighborhood with tree-lined and clean streets, yet it lacks a dedicated park where people of all ages can gather to relax, children can play safely, and the community can even thrive more. I respectfully urge you to:  Prioritize this property for acquisition  Allocate funding in the upcoming budget  Act promptly to prevent loss to private development Thank you for your time and consideration. Honorable Mayor&Councilmembers: As a former long time, Resident of Washington Square and former Neighbourhood association, president, I respectfully request your careful consideration to approve the above reference to gender item for a neighborhood park. It is no secret that our city is woefully under parked, and this is an opportunity to create an inviting space for families in and around Washington Square to recreate. It is almost a miracle that this property has remained undeveloped for all these years. My children who are now grown adults, played in that space built tree houses, and referred to it as the "Indian Fort". We typically had to drive up to Santiago Creek Park or Jack Fisher Park to play to play on a slide or roundabout. You know all the reasons that makes sense why we should do this once the land is gone and developed that opportunity will never be available again. Please say yes.Thank you for your consideration. Dear Santa Ana City Council, My name is Emma Medina-Sisk, and I live in Ward 5 in the Washington Square neighborhood. I am writing with urgency regarding a recent development. Washington Square is a vibrant, community-focused neighborhood with tree-lined streets and strong daily resident connection, yet it lacks a dedicated park where people of all ages can gather, children can play, and the community can thrive. As an environmental justice area, a park is not just an amenity, it is a matter of equity, public health, and quality of life. Establishing a park here directly supports the City's Parks Master Plan goal of 1.5 acres per 1,000 residents. With over 2,000 residents, Washington Square remains underserved, even when the 10th & Flower park under development is completed. This is a clear opportunity to improve health outcomes, strengthen community connections, and provide much-needed open space. This project is also highly feasible: • A willing property seller is in place • The undeveloped land allows for a straightforward construction process • No significant traffic or access concerns; entry is within the neighborhood • Minimal infrastructure investment due to the park's passive design The property is now actively being marketed to developers, referencing California Senate Bill 9, which allows increased residential density, potentially up to four units per lot. This significantly increases the risk of sale and development before the City can act. I respectfully urge you to: • Prioritize this property for acquisition • Allocate funding in the upcoming study sessions per Option 2 of the Feasibility Study • Act promptly to prevent loss to private development Washington Square residents strongly support a neighborhood park and are deeply concerned about potential high-density development on this site. This is a rare and time-sensitive opportunity to secure a lasting public benefit by utilizing the only 1 undeveloped land suitable for a park in our neighborhood. I urge you to act quickly. Thank you for your time and consideration.
