The bullet could not be recovered during the initial scene investigation due to the inability to contact the residents and gain access to the rear yard and out building. The following personnel from the Orange County Crime Lab (OCCL) responded to the location to attempt to recover the bullet under FR# 12-55780: • SUSAN MOORE Lead Forensic Specialist Assist • RACHEL KAPP Forensic Specialist Sketch, Photograph At approximately 0830 hours, OCCL personnel arrived on scene. At approximately 0835 hours, OCCL personnel began processing the scene for the bullet. The bullet had penetrated one of the wood siding panels on the north side of the structure. The penetration hole was approximately 4’2” above ground level (AGL). The siding panel was removed and it appeared the bullet traveled through the wall insulation and penetrated the interior wall. I contacted the resident at 214 South Birch Street and obtained access to the rear yard and interior of the garage. ORANGE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT S.A. 12-026 Investigator: RICHARD BRADLEY Approved By: Date of Report: 10/26/12 Date: 11/29/12 Page 2 of 2 I observed an apparent bullet exit hole on the interior north wall and an apparent bullet entry hole on the interior east plasterboard wall. The exit hole and entry hole were almost at the junction of the east and north walls. I was unable to locate an exit hole on the exterior side of the east wall. KAPP cut a small hole in the interior east wall of the garage in the area of the bullet entry hole. I observed the northeast corner 2X4 vertical support beam was splintered at the south side of the beam. The splintering appeared to have been caused by the bullet striking the beam. The bullet was not lodged in the beam. There was no insulation in the east wall. The bullet was not imbedded in the exterior east wall. It appeared the bullet may have exited the splintered 2X4 and fallen to the bottom of the interior of the wall. It was determined to retrieve the bullet OCCL personnel would have had to cut a large hole in the interior wall extending down from the bullet strike hole to possibly the floor. The damage to the wall caused by the cut would have been extensive. I contacted OCDA Investigator KELLY and advised him of the circumstances surrounding the situation. He discussed the situation and options with other OCDA personnel. Due to the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the extent of damage that would be caused by attempting to recover the bullet, it was determined the efforts to retrieve the bullet would be discontinued at that point. Forensic Specialist KAPP took 49 digital images of the garage and prepared a sketch. All personnel cleared the scene at 0930 hours.
