DeGraffenreid Approved By: Date of Report: 7-3-13 Date: 07/09/2013 Page 1 of 2 CASE NAME: GONZALEZ, JESSICA CLASSIFICATION: OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING (FATAL) INTERVIEW OF: , TRAUMA SURGEON UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, IRVINE- MEDICAL CENTER 101 THE CITY DRIVE SOUTH ORANGE, CALIFORNIA 92868 DATE AND TIME: JUNE 28, 2013 1103 -1115 HOURS LOCATION: 101 THE CITY DRIVE SOUTH, ORANGE, CA 92868 On the above date and time, I conducted an audio digital recorded interview of Trauma Surgeon, , in reference to a Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) officer involved shooting incident involving JESSICA GONZALEZ. has been a surgeon for seven years and is employed by the University of California, Irvine, Medical Center (UCIMC). was an on-duty trauma surgeon working a twenty-four hour shift beginning, June 23, 2013, at 0730 hours and ending, June 24, 2012 at 0730 hours. I provided with a copy of UCIMC’S Emergency Department’s Flow Sheet for patient ISOLATE DOE #9066488, dated June 23, 2013. also referred to his own “trauma run” notes from his computer during the interview. Patient ISOLATE DOE has now been positively identified as JESSICA GONZALEZ. The following is a summary of statements: On June 23, 2013, at approximately 0819 hours, was notified that a critical trauma patient, with penetration to the chest, was en route to UCIMC’S Emergency Room (ER). DeGraffenreid Approved By: Date of Report: 7-3-13 Date: 07/09/2013 Page 2 of 2 The paramedics had reported that there was pulseless electrical activity in the heart and the patient was a-systolic, which meant there was no movement of the heart. Upon arrival at the ER at 0850 hours, observed a 30 year old female, in a-systole, with approximately five gunshot wounds in the following locations: mid back, left scapula area, right scapula area, right bicep and left breast. was unsure when GONZALEZ had lost pulses, so he performed an anterial lateral left side thoracotomy to observe the heart. At the same time, a chest tube was placed into her right side, in case her lung had collapsed. opened the pericardium and noted that there appeared to be a wound to the left ventricle and there was no cardiac motion. pronounced GONZALEZ deceased at 0855 hours. did not administer any medications to GONZALEZ during the course of treatment. According to the paramedics reported that GONZALEZ was in a-systole at 0820 hours. GONZALEZ arrived at the ER at 0850 hours. In professional opinion, thirty minutes without a pulse was not survivable.
