Narrative:
On Sunday morning, June 23, 2013 at approximately 0830 hours, while in an off duty capacity, I was
contacted by Sergeant Lorenzo Carrillo of the Santa Ana Police Department's Gang Detail. Sergeant
Carrillo advised an officer involved shooting occurred earlier in the morning in one of the alleys in the
area of 800 S. Townsend St. The incident resulted in a death. Sergeant Carrillo requested I respond to
the main police facility, contact other Detectives in the Homicide Unit and assist as necessary.
0930 Hours:
I arrived to the police station and went to the Homicide Unit where I met Detective Domingo Cabrera.

Detective Cabrera briefed me on the details of the incident, that were known at that time. Detective
Cabrera told me the injured party was transported to the University of CA Irvine (UCI) Medical Center
in the City of Orange. Santa Ana Police Department Officer Juan Montiel accompanied the injured party
to that facility and was awaiting relief. I gathered my necessary equipment and went to the hospital.
1030 Hours:
I arrived at UCI Medical Center and located Officer Montiel in the emergency/trauma room of the
Douglas Hospital (within UCI). District Attorney Investigator Kory Degraffenried was also present.
Investigator Degraffenried gave me her case number as SA-13-015.
Officer Montiel told me the injured party was female and had succumbed to her wounds. The deceased
was in room DH-16. Officer Montiel told me he escorted the deceased to the hospital from the shooting
scene. He said it appeared the deceased sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her upper body. He said
the deceased was treated at the scene by Orange County Fire Authority Engine 73 Paramedics Baryic
Hunter and Micha McAllister. She was transported to UCI Medical Center by Care Ambulance Unit 299
and EMT/FTO Kevin Sanchez and EMT Scott Carlson. The deceased was first taken to Trauma Room
A within the main hospital. Officer Montiel identified as the deceased's Attending
Trauma Physician and as the Attending Scribe RN. pronounced the victim
deceased at 0855 hours and the deceased was transferred to her present location thereafter.
1040 Hours:
As we maintained security over the deceased, Investigator Degraffenried called the Orange County
Sheriff-Coroner Department and requested their response to UCI Medical Center. At this time, Santa
Ana Police Department Homicide Detective Jim Garcia arrived.
1105 Hours:
Forensic Specialist Laurabeth Camacho of the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Department arrived and
gave us her case number as FR#l3-48764. We continued to await the arrival of the Deputy Coroner.
1126 Hours:
Senior Deputy Comer Brooke Beasley of the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Department arrived and
gave us her case number as 13-02615-BB. SDC Beasley was briefed.
1134 Hours:
In our presence, SDC Beasley's investigation commenced. During the investigation, various
observations of the deceased and her condition were noted. The deceased's clothing and personal items
were inspected. Refer to Investigator Degraffenried's report for those observations.
1206 Hours:
arrived to transport the deceased to the Orange County
Coroner's Office for further investigation. At 1210 hours, prepared and bagged the body. At
1211 hours, SDC Beasley sealed the body bag with a Coroner Tag.

1215 Hours:

The body was removed by Traditional Funeral Services. We waited while hospital staff prepared the
Emergency Department Trauma Flow Sheet, ED Nursing Notes, Care Report, Emergency Room
Treatment Record and other documents for us ( attached). An amount of US currency removed from the
deceased's possession was also retrieved by House Keeping Supervisor and remanded to
the custody of SDC Beasley.
1250 Hours:
Trauma room DH-16 was relinquished back to the medical staff and was cleaned. SOC Beasley
collected the deceased's clothing as evidence and transported it to the Coroner 's Office.
1300 Hours:
Officer Montiel, Investigator Degraffenried, Detective Garcia, SDC Beaslye and I left the hospital. I returned to
the Santa Ana Police Department and eventually attended an investigative de-briefing. I completed this
documentation. This concluded my assistance in this investigation up to this time. For more information, refer to
Investigator Degraffenried's report and other documentation initiated by other involved personnel.
