A. Minutes
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve minutes of the regular meeting of November 3, 2005.
Chairman Giles-Cook would like to modify Item I to read National Register
District instead of National Trust.
B. Commission Secretary Resort
RECOMMENDATION:
Instruct the Commission Secretary to enter into the minutes that pursuant to the
Brown Act, the November 3, 2005 Agenda for the Regular Meeting was posted
on the door of the City Hall Council Chambers at 22 Civic Center Plaza on
October 27, 2005 at 3:34 p.m.

C. HISTORIC PROPERTY PRESERVATION AGREEI~AENT NO. 2006-13
Filed by the City of Santa Ana to execute an agreement with Helen R. Brown for
the structure located at 301 South Cypress Avenue (Grose House).
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommend that the City Council direct the City Attorney to prepare and
' authorize the City Manager and Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement
with Helen R. Brown for the structure located at 301 South Cypress Avenue.
D. HISTORIC PROPERTY PRESERVATION AGREEI)AENT NO. 2005-14
Filed by the City of Santa Ana to execute an agreement with Miguel A. Mejia for
the structure located at 506 South Birch Street (Crane House).
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommend that the City Council direct the City Attorney to prepare and
authorize the City Manager and Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement
with Miguel A. Mejia for the structure located at 506 South Birch Street.
E. HISTORIC PROPERTY PRESERVATION AGREEMENT NO. 2005-15
Filed by the City of Santa Ana to execute an agreement with Sheryl L. Harvey for
the structure at 419 West Nineteenth Street (Yeary House).
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommend that the City Council direct the City Attorney to prepare and
authorize the City Manager and Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement
with Sheryl L. Harvey for the structure at 419 West Nineteenth Street.

Assistant Planner Hally Soboleske presented the staff report and
recommendation.
Commission inquired as to how many properties were surveyed and deemed
' eligible for listing from the original list for this neighborhood. Leslie Heumann
indicated 29 properties were eligible.

STAFF AND COMMISSION COMMENTS
' 3. Staff Comments
Hally Soboleske wished the Commissioners Happy Holidays, stated that the year
was successful with the addition of 31 Mills Act contracts. She indicated that
Riverview West will be the next neighborhood to be surveyed.
Ms. Soboleske provided an update on the renovations to the interior of the Ford
House/Pepito and the Joanne Dance Studio. She provided additional
historical/cultural information regarding this property. The Commission
concurred that this new information should be recorded in the property's
template. The modified template will be brought back to the Commission for
approval.
Jay Trevino toured the Joe Lowell house at 924 N. Lowell Street during
renovations and praised the owner's effort to retain the original features of the
structure. Commissioner O'Callaghan concurred as he coordinated work efforts
with the owner. Mr. Astran.
4. Historic Resources Commission Comments
Commissioner Chinn
• Commented on the impressive renovations made to the Borchard House
' at 1617 E. Fourth Street. Suggested that the residence be placed on a
home tour.
• Extended Happy Holidays wishes to all.
Commissioner Corpin
• Thanked everyone for a successful year and extended Happy Holiday
wishes.
Vice Chair Schaefer
• Requested the 2006 Historic Commission meeting dates.
• Recommended that staff provide better photos for review during the
Commission hearings.
• Inquired how staff handles fencing that complements the architecture of a
structure. Staff indicated design assistance is shown in the citywide
design guidelines.
• Requested a discussion on the Goals and Objectives for 2004 - 2005.
• Extended Happy Holiday wishes to all.
Commissioner O'Callaghan
• Extended Happy Holidays wishes to all.
' Commissioner Lutz
• Requested a copy of the Los Angeles Times article regarding the Santa
Ana Walking tour.
• Thanked staff for their work throughout the year, including the
encouragement with homeowners to be in agreement with their property
being listed on the Santa Ana Historical Register.
• Extended Happy Holidays and Happy New Year wishes to all.

Chairman Cook-Giles
• Invited everyone to attend the Orange County Center for Contemporary
Art on December 1 at 6:00 p.m.
• Announced Christmas Eve event at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah.
Thanked staff and praised their work this past year.
Vice Chair Schaeffer announced the fundraiser at the Historical Society on
Saturday, December 6.
5. Excuse of Absences
Commissioner Lutz made a motion to excuse the absences of Commissioners
Bustamante, Sarmiento and Seeley; motion was seconded by Commissioner
Schaefer and unanimously approved by the Commission.
