RECOMMENDATION:
Approve minutes of the regular meeting of June 2, 2005.
B. Commission Secretary Report
RECOMMENDATION:
Instruct the Commission Secretary to enter into the minutes that pursuant to the
Brown Act, the June 2, 2005 Agenda for the Regular Meeting was posted on the
door of the City Hall Council Chambers at 22 Civic Center Plaza on May 27,
2005 at 8:29 a.m.
C. HISTORIC PROPERTY PRESERVATION AGREEMENT NO. 2005-02
Filed by the City of Santa Ana, to execute an agreement with Christian Tiberius
Sharpe and Constantine Sharpe, property owners for the structure located at
1928 North Greenleaf Street.

RECOMMENDATION:
Recommend that the City Council direct the City Attorney to prepare and
authorize the City Manager and the Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement
with Christian Tiberius Sharpe and Constantine Sharpe, property owners for the
structure located at 1928 North Greenleaf Street.

Commissioner Lutz received a letter from The Bowers Museum requesting
support on the expansion project. The letter was sent to all the Commissioners.
Commissioner O'Callaghan abstained on public hearing Item 3, Historic
Resources Commission Application No. 2005-11 and Historic Register
Categorization No. 2005-11.

recommendation.
Vice Chair Schaefer commented on current construction at the location and
would like confirmation that City permits coincide with construction.

Historic Resources Commission Minutes 3 July 7, 2005
Senior Planner Sergio Klotz presented the staff report and recommendation. Mr.
Klotz introduced Robert Coffee, architect for The Bowers Museum.
Mr. Coffee reviewed the original 1932 building design, the 1992 moderate-
contemporary modifications and commented on the 2005 additions to the
museum structure. Mr. Coffee discussed the overall features for the integration of
the architecture and the landscape.
-' Commission voiced appreciation of the detailed presentation and commented on
the Bowers monument sign, the features for the north elevation, the tree
selection for the landscape, longevity of material usage, and the interior design
for the main lobby.

5. Staff Comments
Maya De Rosa made the following comments:
• Extended congratulations to Dr. and Mrs. Bustamante with the birth of
their daughter, Isabella Sofia born on June 19.
• Announced the upcoming Design Review workshop scheduled for July 26.
• Announced her resignation effective the end of July.
Mr. Trevino praised Maya's exemplary efforts and extended her best wishes. He
indicated staff will be announcing a farewell event to honor Maya.
6. Historic Resources Commission Comments
Commissioner Lutz
• Extended best wishes to Maya with her new endeavor.
• Requested information regarding the fountain at the Bowers Museum that was
' converted into a garden. Staff will advise.
Commissioner O'Callaghan
• Extended good luck wishes to Maya.
• Inquired as to whom from the City nominated Floral Park for neighborhood of the
year. Thanked Maya for her involvement with the Floral Park Neighborhood
Association.
Commissioner Seeley
• Congratulated Maya and thanked her for all her work.

• Congratulated Maya on her new endeavor.
• Inquired about joint meeting with Planning Commission regarding the Design
Standards. Mr. Trevino indicated Planning Ad Hoc Committee has been completed
and will advise date for a joint session.
• Announced July 9 Walking Tour at Dr. Willella Howe Waffle House at noon,
sponsored by the Santa Ana Preservation Society.
• Commented on the condition of the cannon at Jack Fisher Park that requires
repainting. Staff will advise.
• Announced upcoming events at the Santa Ana Library History Room: August 6
Historic Preservation Workshop, August 13 How to Conduct a Family or
Neighborhood Oral History, August 20 Family Photo Preservation Workshop.
Commissioner Sarmiento
• Congratulated Maya and wished her well.
Commissioner Schaefer
• Congratulated Maya and extended well wishes.
• Also inquired as to whom from the City submitted the nomination for Floral Park, for
neighborhood of the year. Staff will advise.
Excuse of Absences
Commissioner Corpin motioned to excuse the absences of Chair Giles and
Commissioner Bustamante, Seconded by Commissioner Sarmiento and unanimously
approved by the Commission.
