Filed by Jennifer Chavez to allow the off -premise sale of beer and wine (Type 20 ABC license) for Walgreens at 1301 East Seventeenth Street, located in the Community Commercial (Cl) zoning district. RECOMMENDATION: Confirm the Zoning Administrator's action approving Conditional Use Permit No. 2011-12 as conditioned Planning Commission Agenda 1 June 27, 2011 0 0 i Filed by Jennifer Chavez to allow the off -premise sale of beer and wine (Type 20 ABC license) for Walgreens located at 1715 North Bristol Street in the Bristol Street Corridor Plan No. 1 (SP1) and Two -Family Residential (R2) zoning districts. RECOMMENDATION: Confirm the Zoning Administrator's action approving Conditional Use Permit No. 2011-13 as conditioned Commission Chair Alderete asked the applicant to provide additional information on the inclusion of alcohol sales at other Walgreens locations throughout the region and country. Walgreens representative Jason Austin provided information stating that beer and wine are offered in stores nationwide which help to promote competitiveness. He stated that the Walgreen's public outreach efforts include contact with local schools and there is monitoring of minors within the stores. Walgreens provided the Police Department with a detailed security plan and employee training manual for alcohol sales. Chairman Alderete requested clarification on Planning Condition No. 13 that indicated hours of operation between 7:00 a.m. to 11 p.m., store opened until 10 p.m. Mr. Austin clarified that during holidays, hours are extended to 11:00 p.m. MOTION: Item B. Planning Intern Ali Pezeshkpour presented the staff report and recommendation. The public hearing was opened. Representative for Metro PCS, Jane Norine, spoke in support of the project. PLANNING COMMISSION MEMBER COMMENTS Vice Chairman Gartner • Expressed concerns with signage violations from businesses on 17th Street in particular from Broadway Street west on 17th Street. Chairman Alderete • Praised the bike lane on Memory Lane. S. EXCUSE OF ABSENCES Commissioner Acosta moved to excuse the absences of Commissioners Nalle and Turner; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Yrarrazaval and approved by the Commission with a vote of 5:0.
