HomeMy WebLinkAboutHANDOUT_55A_FINAL SAN LORENZO LIFT STATION_COLORSan Lorenzo Sewer Lift 40 Station Project February 21, 2012 Existing San Lorenzo Sewer Lift Station 9 Built in 1960's, retrofitted in the 1980's Mechanical and electrical equipment are old, outdated and difficult to maintain in proper operating condition Location is hard to access beneath Bristol Street IV Electrical panels are outdoors — set on the back of sidewalk Access is a manhole that floods during rain storms ' Existing computer software (operating system) is obsolete and support is not readily available Routine Maintenance requires the closure of a travel lane and disruption of traffic on Bristol Street Causes Traffic Congestion- During Maintenance amp k Proposed Location EIR Process ' Environmental Impact Report (EIR) was prepared for the San Lorenzo Sewer Lift Station in 2010 EIR was circulated for Public Review and Comment from July 14t through September 10th, 2010 (58 days) ` EIR was originally scheduled for the City Council meeting of February 7th, 2011; however, the item was pulled to address a number of last minute comments received the afternoon of the City Council meeting The City chose to expand the EIR's analysis of alternatives for the proposed project and incorporate other minor revisions into the document 40 A Draft EIR was prepared and re -circulated for public review from September 14th through October 31St, 2011 OR The re -circulated EIR evaluated 21 alternatives to the proposed project, including 19 alternative site locations Alternative Site Locations Findings None of the alternatives evaluated is environmentally superior to the proposed project Many of these alternatives would actually have greater environmental impacts than the proposed project The proposed new location for the lift station is an unused sliver of land at the West end of San Lorenzo Avenue Proposed Location .fro.. Acquisition 10 To Construct the new lift station, the City will need to acquire approximately 292 Square Feet of unused land currently owned by the Santa Ana California Lodge A portion of this acquisition includes an existing sewer easement that was dedicated to the City in the 1960s when that portion of San Lorenzo Avenue was vacated There is an existing 12" sewer main currently flowing through g said easement, and this sewer main is operating above capacity New San Lorenzo Sewer Lift Station Construction of New Lift Station will take 10-12 months to complete Will significantly reduce the chances of a major sewage spill New facility will include a masonry block building to house electrical equipment and control panels Building will be approximately 10'x30' and 17' high, and will include a below ground dry pit to house the pumps, motors and associated equipment New facility will include landscape and hardscape improvements to improve the aesthetics of the area 0 %A/:I1 .- --- -1 - - r ' - vv ill Flu vluc a Jc1iCi cmu rijure accessi Die working area for City crews IV New location will alleviate traffic congestion on Bristol Street for routine maintenance After
