Award a contract to Proforce Law Enforcement for Taser electronic control devices in an amount not
to exceed $268,000.
DISCUSSION
The Santa Ana Police Department utilizes electronic control devices to gain control over violently
resisting subjects. The new X26E will replace, supplement and upgrade the department's current
inventory of X26 Taser electronic control devices. The X26 Tasers purchased in 2001 are obsolete
and due for replacement. The X26E incorporates new technologies including a data chip that
records the time, date and duration of discharge each time the Taser is used. ProForce Law
Enforcement is the sole source distributor for the X26E Taser electronic control devices and
accessories for California. As a result, staff recommends Council approval of the recommended
action.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds are available in the Criminal Activities D.O.J account (no. 02614450 63001).
