1. Reject the bid from Newco Distributors, Inc. as nonresponsive.
2. Award a contract to Midway City Feed Company for animal food for a one-year period, with
provision for three one-year renewals, in an annual amount not to exceed $35,000.
DISCUSSION
The Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park maintains an average of 250 animals, including birds,
monkeys, a camel, and other exotic species with specific dietary needs. The contract for animal
food is designed to provide quality products at significant savings based on quantity pricing.
The notice inviting bids was advertised on September 26, 2012, and bids were solicited. A
summary of the bid invitations and bids received is as follows:

Bids were solicited and opened on October 10, 2012 and evaluated (Exhibit 1). The bid received
from Newco Distributors did not meet the requirements for all food items on the bid. The bid
received from Midway City Feed Company is responsive to the specification and meets the City's
requirements.
Fiscal Impact
Funds are available in the Recreation and Community Services Zoo Animal Food and Supply
(accounting unit 01113220-63400).
