Adopt a resolution declaring the results of the General Municipal Election held in the City on
November 6, 2012.
DISCUSSION
On November 21 , 2012, the Orange County Registrar of Voters certified the results of the canvass
of the Santa Ana General Municipal Election returned for Measure GG and the election of certain
officers.
Pursuant to State Elections Code Sections 9217, 10263 and 10264, the City Council must adopt a
resolution reciting the fact of the election results as follow: (a) The whole number of votes cast in
the city; (b) The names of the persons voted for; (c) The measures voted upon; (d) For what
office each person was voted for; (e) The number of votes given at each precinct to each person
and for and against each measure; and (f) The number of votes given in the city to each person
and for and against each measure.
Measure GG considered and approved by the voters is related to Resolution 2012-034 and
changes Section 401 and 404 of the Santa Ana Charter regarding mayoral term limits. The
Charter Amendment is considered adopted upon the City Council's declaration of the vote, and
shall go into effect 1 O days following this declaration.
Also on the Results of the Canvass of the General Election Returns are the results of the election
of certain officers. The accompanying resolution and Exhibit A identify the results of the balloting.
By adopting the resolution, the City Council declares elected the following individuals:

RESOLUTION NO. 2012-XXX
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE
GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON NOVEMBER
6. 2012.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines
and declares as follows:
A. Pursuant to the Charter of the City of Santa Ana, a general municipal
election was held in the City of Santa Ana on November 6, 2012, to fill the
office of Mayor and offices of members of the City Council nominated from
Wards 1, 3, and 5 of the City, and to consider a ballot measure amending
the City Charter.
B. The results of the said election, including the whole number of votes cast
in the City, the names of the persons voted for, for what office each
person was voted for, and the number of votes given in the City to each
person, are set forth in that certain document attached hereto as Exhibit A
and incorporated herein by this reference as though fully set forth.
C. That, based upon said results, Miguel A. Pulido is declared elected to the
office of Mayor of the City of Santa Ana to a two year term-
D_ That, based upon said results, the following persons are declared elected
to the following respective offices, each to a four year term:
1. Vincent F. Sarmiento, member of the City Council of the City of
Santa Ana from Ward 1 .
2. Angelica Amezcua, member of the City Council of the City of Santa
Ana from Ward 3.
3. Roman A. Reyna, member of the City Council of the City of Santa
Ana from Ward 5.
E. That based upon said results, the following ballot measures shall become
effective after acceptance and filing by the Secretary of State:
1 . Measure GG -Amendment to Charter Sections 401 and 404.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by
the City Council, and the Clerk of the Council shall attest to and certify the vote adopting
this Resolution.

DISCUSSION
Pursuant to Santa Ana Charter Section 405 and Municipal Code Section 2-101 , the newly elected
council shall elect a mayor pro tem who shall act as mayor during the absence from the City or
disability of the mayor, or during any vacancy in the office of mayor until otherwise filled in
accordance with Section 403 of the Santa Ana Charter.
