Set Public Hearing For CONTINUED TO FILE NUMBER Award a contract to Smart & Final for sundry food and paper goods for a three-year period in an annual amount not to exceed $35,000. DISCUSSION Various City agencies purchase and provide snacks and refreshments for participants of City- sponsored events. The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency coordinates various youth guidance programs including summer day camp, after school teen mentoring with the "Teen Space" program and the "Family Pride" program which brings families together with interactive events. The Santa Ana Library provides treat bags to participants in its reading incentive program. The Police Department purchases paper goods and condiments for programs like the Parent/Teen Academy and the Santa Ana PAAL (Police Athletic & Activity League). In addition to these programs, the Police Department also purchases miscellaneous sanitary and paper goods for storage of evidence. On October 2, 2006, the City Council awarded a contract to Smart & Final for a five year period. Smart & Final is a local Santa Ana vendor offering the use of material releases and has performed satisfactorily during the last contract period. In order to continue to purchase supplies for these events and programs, staff recommends approval of a new contract period.
