It started off as a really nice event. It was well organized, there was good lighting, a good sound system, well attended, nice music and entertainment. The lines for the refreshments were too long for me, but it appeared that folks were enjoying the refreshments and the event. Then the Santa Ana Business Council portion of the evening began. The evening went downhill from there when speaker after speaker after speaker droned on in Spanish only, for over thirty minutes without any English translation. At this point, it was not in any way an all-inclusive event welcoming to the entire community. If I were a downtown business owner, regardless of race, I would have been furious! If I were one of the Hispanic folks in attendance I would have been ashamed. As it was, I was embarrassed for our City. Sam Romero, one of the speakers and board members of the Santa Ana Business Council used to have a sign in his shop that read, "No Anglo's". That is the same sign that should have been hanging over the Plaza Navidena event Saturday night. English translation complete. Sincerely, Dave Hoen
