DISCUSSION The Public Works Agency Water Resources Division operates, maintains, and repairs approximately 480 miles of water main, 7,000 distribution valves, and 4,900 fire hydrants. From time to time, repair work is necessary on water mains that would traditionally require customer water shut -offs for several hours. To minimize customer outages, the water maintenance division has been using the EZTM Valve system when the need to do so arises. The EZTM system can add a new water main valve or perform a pipeline isolation without service interruption to surrounding customers. It is innovative technology that the City has used with great success for over seven years. Due to frequent use, the existing equipment needs replacement and additional EZTM valves are needed for future installations.
