RE: Agenda Item 85B— DISCUSS AND ADDRESS ALLEGATIONS OF BROWN ACT VIOLATIONS BY
MULTIPLE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL REGARDING SERIAL MEETING
Dear Mayor and Councilmembers,
The Brown Act states:
"The people of this State do not yield their sovereignty to the agencies which serve them.
The people, in delegating authority, do not give their public servants the right to decide
what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to know. The people
insist on remaining informed so that they may retain control over the instruments they
have created."
Isn't it ironic that this supposed Brown Act violation occurred because the Council was trying
to figure out how to overcome the Mayor's dereliction of duty? Rather than allowing "the
people" to decide how their representatives are chosen, the Mayor decided to be the sole
person who decides how "the people" can choose who represents them. Exactly what the
Brown Act is attempting to prevent.
And isn't it ironic that the Councilmember who placed this item on the Agenda, is the POA's
representative on the Council rather than the representative of "the people"? Which is why
District Elections are so important. But you all know that. Unfortunately we have a Mayor and
big money that will do anything to maintain power over "the people".
