Programming would be provided four (2) nights a
week, Thursday and Friday, from 7pm-10pm. Each week would be programmed around a theme and programming would
consist of sports/ clinics, arts and crafts, health and wellness, community resources, and special events. An opening ceremony
and registration day will be held on Saturday July 7th from 12:00 to 5:00pm.
Sports/Clinics- Neutral Ground will utilize existing Parks and Recreation infrastructure (courts, fields, etc) to offer sports
programming and skills development. Each week could culminate in a match or game on. Saturday night. Highlights to this
programming could be special matches between youth involved in the sports clinics and special Adult teams, such as a
basketball game between youth and Santa Ana Fire Department.
Arts and Crafts- Each night will have available arts and crafts tables for smaller children to engage in making a special
take home artwork or craft. Local artists could be brought in to teach special one-time classes as well. Finally, local artwork
created through existing Parks and Recreation classes or through local artists granted from the City of Santa Ana can be on
display for residents to enjoy.
Health and Wellness- Neutral Ground will request nonprofit and health organizations to provide resources and materials
during the summer. These could include free eye clinics, free dental exams, free HIV/STD testing, as well as health and
wellness classes such as yoga and Zumba.
Community Resources- Neutral Ground will partner with a variety of nonprofit organizations and City and County agencies
to provide materials and information each night. Examples of these are Latino voter registration, Library outreach providing
library materials and information on obtaining a library card, Department of Parks and Recreation services and classes, and
LAFD providing safety presentations and a fire truck for children to tour.
Special Events- Neutral Ground plans to incorporate special events into programming through leveraged resources and
relationships.
Although food is not an allowable expense with this grant, Neutral Ground hopes to find vendors and business sponsors
that will help provide meals/snacks and beverages each night of SNL.
Neutral Ground young adults (16-24) from the neighborhoods we are serving to be part of our team. These youth will he
responsible for helping assist Santa Ana Police Department at the park entrances and exits, serving food/ snacks, helping to
set up and take down, and general programming assistance. Neutral Ground plans to provide employment, and work
experience and will also be provided training to receive their ServSafe Food Handler card, allowing them to receive training
to properly serve food during SNL. Perhaps, more importantly, this opportunity will provide them with an Industry
Recognized Credential that they will be able to use well after the summer is over,
EXHIBIT A
