Large Folding Table <br />Intake/Release - This is the space or area where <br />the arrestees and inmates enter or leave the Jail. <br />i _ ( More than likely, a police or sheriffs officer brings <br />f them in for booking. The arrestee goes through a <br />battery of processing steps. They may be <br />.1 handcuffed at this time. The transition from police <br />to Jail is a critical time in the booking process. This <br />L is the time the arrestee may act out or resist being <br />incarcerated. The area needs to be designed to <br />4as " accommodate all types of security risks and <br />should be of the highest security level. After the <br />officer leaves and the processing and I.D. is <br />completed, the arrestee is showered, given Jail <br />clothing in exchange for his or her own clothing, <br />_ given bedding and a hygiene kit, and assigned a <br />room. The arrestee may retain an attorney or <br />contact a bail bondsman. The spaces included in this functional use are may include (1) officer report <br />writing area, (2) holding cells for the combative arrestee for staging, (3) waiting area for the compliant, (4) <br />sobering cell, (5) finger print area, (6) photo area, (7) shower and toilet room, (8) adjacent property <br />storage, (9) valuable storage area, (10) bedding and issue storage, (11) medical screening room, (12) <br />interview room, (13) classification office, (14) booking staff office, (15) booking staff toilet, and (16) <br />storage area for large items such as bikes, backpacks, bedrolls, etc. <br />Standards - Title 15 responds to the processes involved in the intake and release of the arrestee. Title 24 <br />states that the Jail shall have a reception area pending admission to the facility. This area shall have a <br />weapons locker, secure room for arrestees, access to a shower, secure storage for valuables, accessible <br />telephone, and hot and cold running water for staff. <br />EXISTING CONDITIONS AT THE SANTA ANA CITY JAIL <br />While in intake, detainee tattoos and pre-existing injuries are documented, along with booking photos, ID <br />and fingerprinting. Medical screenings are given to those arrestees requiring immediate medical or mental <br />health attention. Doctors and mental health crisis specialists are contacted if needed. <br />First Floor Intake - The booking lobby has two restrooms available for inmates sitting in the docile lobby <br />area. Male and female inmates may be in the lobby at the same time, but are not placed into holding cells <br />Appendix & <br />65A-171 <br />
