Arts and Crafts- Each night will have available arts and crafts tables for smaller children to engage in
making a special take home artwork or craft. Local artists could be brought in to teach special one-time
classes as well. Finally, local artwork created through existing Parks and Recreation classes or through local
artists granted from the City of Santa Ana can be on display for residents to enjoy.
Health and Wellness- Neutral Ground will request nonprofit and health organizations to provide
resources and materials during the summer. These could include free eye clinics, free dental exams, free
HIV/STD testing, as well as health and wellness classes such as yoga and Zumba.
Community Resources- Neutral Ground will partner with a variety of nonprofit organizations and City and
County agencies to provide materials and information each night. Examples of these are Latino voter
registration, Library outreach providing library materials and information on obtaining a library card,
Department of Parks and Recreation services and classes, and LAFD providing safety presentations and a fire
truck for children to tour. Special Events- Neutral Ground plans to incorporate special events into programming through
everaged resources and relationships. Examples of this could be an Automobile Enthusiast Club bringing vintage cars to "1950s
theme week' for attendees to see or a Mariachi band performing.
Although food is not an allowable expense with this grant, Neutral Ground plans to find vendors and
business sponsors that will help provide meals/snacks and beverages each night of SNL. Last year, Neutral
Ground was able to provide a hot meal every night of SNL, plus snow cones and other treats.
Neutral Ground hopes to hire at least 5 young adults (16-24) from the neighborhoods we are serving to
be part of our team. These youth will be responsible for helping assist Santa Ana Police Department at the
park entrances and exits, serving food/ snacks, helping to set up and take down, and general programming
assistance. This employment will provide over 220 hours of work experience. These young adults will receive
aver 80 hours of paid training, where they will learn important aspects of youth development, gang
ntervention and violence prevention and mediation. They will also be provided training to receive their
iervSafe Food Handler card, allowing them to receive training to properly serve food during SNL. Perhaps,
more importantly, this opportunity will provide them with an Industry Recognized Credential that they will
oe able to use well after the summer is over. This year, Neutral Ground plans to move beyond Summer Night Lights being strictly
an events -focused program during the summer, to one that incorporates violence prevention and intervention through follow
up with families outside of the parks and throughout the year. This past year, Neutral Ground was able to provide a Toys for
Tots event during Christmas and all the children served during SNL were invited back for this event. This follow-up allows
Neutral Ground staff to work deep within the community, providing rumor control and effective gang and violence intervention
>ervices.
Although food is not an allowable expense with this grant, Neutral Ground plans to find vendors and
ousiness sponsors that will help provide meals/snacks and beverages each night of SNL.
