<br />Task 2 - Construction Inspection Services
<br />In general, the Michael Baker Inspector will have the necessary
<br />experience and knowledge of construction, equipment, materials,
<br />methods, and workmanship for street improvement, traffic signal,
<br />streetlight, stormwater diversion system, pretreatment systems, storm
<br />drain, force main, stormwater pump station, control systems, stormwater
<br />filtration systems, landscape and irrigation, and specific work necessary
<br />to be performed on the proposed projects.
<br />The Michael Baker Inspector will be able to understand and interpret
<br />Plans and Specifications and will be familiar with the Greenbook
<br />(Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction), pertinent
<br />various Standards and codes, and OSHA Construction Safety Orders
<br />The Michael Baker Inspector will be able to interact professionally
<br />with contractors, engineers, business owners, residents; and respond
<br />promptly and courteously to requests. The Michael Baker Inspector will
<br />be able to follow verbal and written instructions, communicate clearly
<br />and concisely.
<br />Typical Michael Baker Inspection services will include, but not be limited
<br />to:
<br />1. Review the Plans and Specifications thoroughly prior to the pre -
<br />construction meeting. Attend pre -construction meeting.
<br />2. Establish effective communications with the Contractor, other
<br />agencies, residents, utilities, and commercial business and property
<br />owners. Handle and resolve businesses/residential complaints.
<br />3. Possess appropriate valid inspector certifications and licenses for the
<br />work to be inspected, including deputy inspection required of various
<br />trades. Ensure compliance with the Plans, Specifications, and other
<br />requirements, such as, but not limited to, the Contract, Traffic Control,
<br />Cal/OSHA Standards, CCO, Permits, Standard Plans, checking line,
<br />grade, size, elevation, and location of improvements.
<br />4. The monitor contractor's compliance with the Storm Water Pollution
<br />Prevention Plans (SWPPP).
<br />5. Attend the progress construction meetings.
<br />6. Keep daily diaries (log), fill out Incident (accident) Reports, and take
<br />pictures of the project. A daily Inspection Report identifying work done by
<br />the Contractor will be submitted to the Michael Baker Project Manager
<br />on the next business day for review and filing.
<br />7. Keep a daily Inspection report log identifying work done by the
<br />Contractor for review and filing. Also the log will include weather
<br />conditions, construction equipment on site, list of contractor and sub-
<br />contractor employees, and other pertinent information. The inspector will
<br />issue "Order to Comply" notices when necessary.
<br />8. Document all Contractor delays, reasons for delay, length of
<br />time for delay, and Phases of work. Monitor and provide supporting
<br />documentation on the personnel and equipment that is involved with any
<br />extra work performed by the Contractor.
<br />9. During the course of inspection and monitoring of the work, if the
<br />Inspector observes an unsafe situation, he will notify the Contractor
<br />of the violation and provide written notification of such infraction to
<br />the Contractor. If the Contractor refuses to comply, the Michael Baker
<br />Inspector will notify the City and Cal OSHA.
<br />10. Coordinate material sampling and testing with City's on —call
<br />geotechnical company.
<br />11. Review the Contractor's invoices, verify completed work, and
<br />approve all quantities.
<br />12. Prepare a list of items for correction (punch list) and prepare redlined
<br />as -built plans.
<br />13. Possess a vehicle with insurance and a mobile phone for immediate
<br />contact by the City and show proof of a valid California's driver's license.
<br />Possess a notebook computer with wireless e-mail capability, and will
<br />take relevant daily construction images.
