WHEN FEASIBLE, FUNDED PROGRAMS <br />SHOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE CITYWIDE FOR ALL YOUTH IN OUR CITY – <br />Councilmembers Mendoza, Solorio and Villegas <br /> <br />Council discussion ensued and direction provided to staff. <br /> <br />Councilmember Solorio requested to revise his request, due to the recent <br />changes, to direct staff to bring back for council consideration within 45-days <br />final recommendations for use of the entire $6 - $7 million in the youth fund that is <br />funded by the Cannabis Fund that will be available as of July 1, 2020. In addition, <br />requests city departments, the City Zoo, Santa Ana Unified School District, the <br />Discovery Cube and Santa Ana based non-profits submit proposals to fund 2020 <br />summer and fall programs. <br /> <br />Councilmember Solorio made brief statements on behalf of Youth Commission <br />Chair Joseph Acevedo. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tem spoke regarding childcare. <br /> <br /> <br />PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> <br />Thai Phan spoke in support of youth programs. <br /> <br />Gerry Almendariz, Superintendent with Santa Ana Unified School District, spoke <br />in support of Item 85B for summer programs and spoke on various other topics. <br /> <br />Dulce strongly believes in investing in youth and supports ethnic studies and non- <br />violent movements. Spoke regarding Youth Commission meetings and various <br />other topics. <br /> <br />Kathy Decker, Executive Director for the Friends of Santa Ana Zoo, spoke <br />regarding the Santa Ana Zoo and redirecting youth funds for its educational <br />programs. <br /> <br />Steve Gallegos spoke in support of investment in youth, however, expressed <br />concern with the recommended programs. <br /> <br />Selena Gallegos spoke in support of item. <br /> <br />Speaker spoke in support of item. <br /> <br />Magdalena Sorria spoke in support of item and various other topics. <br /> <br />Cecilia Iglesias spoke in opposition of the item, and stated funds should be put <br />towards other City services and spoke on various other topics. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 8 JUNE 18, 2020 <br /> <br />
