5. Theory and practice for vehicle extrication will be addressed. Students will practice spinal
immobilization and removal of the patient from a vehicle. Other topics presented include: access
and rescue, trauma plan and mass casualty incident scenarios.
NATIONAL REGISTRY PROCESS
If an Emergency Medical Technician ("EMT") student has successfully completed their didactic
(classroom) portion of the program and the two externship/clinical rotations and is current on any
applicable tuition payment plan may be eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical
Technicians (NREMT) Cognitive Exam. This exam is administered at an off -site 3rd party testing
facility. An exam application will be facilitated on campus by an instructor and the Program Director
to help the student correctly complete the application and to properly affiliate the application to our
program. Once the application is complete, the student is responsible to pay an $80.00 exam fee
to the NREMT through their website at https://www nremt orq/rwd/public/document/emt. This fee is
not covered in the EMT tuition cost and all students applying to take this exam are responsible for
paying the exam fee.
STATE CERTIFICATION PROCESS
Upon successful completion of the NREMT Cognitive Exam, the student will receive a letter and
card certifying them as an Emergency Medical Technician. The student may then send this card,
along with an application and application fee to the state in which they wish to provide emergency
medical care. The NREMT card gives them reciprocity in all 50 states as well as the associated
territories. Students wishing to provide emergency medical care in California can accomplish this
by applying directly through the county website in which they desire to work. Successful applicants
are eligible to work in the California County they applied through. If the EMT desires to practice in
multiple counties, they would need to submit their credentials to each county they desire to practice
in, along with any additional required fees per county.
Below are the combined state/county fees for Riverside, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Orange and
San Diego counties. Please note all students applying for state/county certifications are responsible
for paying the additional state and county fees.
Riverside County: https //ca.emsbridge.com/remsa/portal#/Ioqin Fee of $100 (county+state)
San Bernardino County: https://www icemaper com/licensure/public/icemaper/public-
portal/login/create account Fee of $145 (county+state)
Los Angeles County: hftp://dhs.lacounLy.gov/wps/portal/dhs/ems/certification Fee of $160
(county+state)
Orange County: https //wvvw.oc-meds.org/licensure/public/orangecoun Fee of $200
(county+state)
San Diego County:
https://www sandiegocounty gov/content/sdc/hhsa/programs/phs/emergency medical services/ce
rtification and accreditation/emt initial.html Fee of $138 (county+state)
27
