These courses often build on the foundation <br />provided from lower division courses. <br />ACADEMIC FREEDOM <br />SCIT permits and encourages "academic freedom", or the right to <br />discuss and hold non-standard or traditional viewpoints, allowing <br />the school, teachers, and student's latitude. Academic freedoms <br />are viewed as additions, and may supplement the curriculum, but <br />must not replace it. Faculty has the freedom to take viewpoints <br />that may conflict with the school, its administration and the world <br />ingeneral. A faculty member can articulate or even advocate <br />controversial positions or concepts without any fear of reprisal <br />from anyone associated with the school. The faculty Is not <br />allowed to participate in any conduct that would violate the laws <br />of the land or that violate any Individual's right to his or her own <br />personal freedoms. Specific evaluation and assessment criteria are <br />outlined in the syllabi for each course. SCIT uses a traditional A— F <br />(4.0-0.0) grading system. <br />In addition to the grading system, SCIT uses the following <br />designations: <br />WITHDRAW (W) <br />A grade designation of W indicates that a student has voluntarily <br />withdrawn from a course after the end of the Add/Drop period <br />and prior to completing 80%of the scheduled clock hours for the <br />course. Students who receive a W grade are subject to the Course <br />Academics <br />Withdraw and Incomplete Charge policy stated In this catalog. A <br />grade designation of W: <br />Does not contribute to a student's grade point average; <br />Does not count as quarter credits units toward a students' <br />degree or diploma completion requirement; <br />Counts toward the total number of credits attempted when <br />determining full or part-time status; and <br />Counts toward total number of credits attempted for <br />determining the students Satisfactory Academic Progress, <br />WITHDRAW FAIL (WE) <br />A grade designation of W F Indicates that a student has either (1) <br />voluntarily withdrawn from a course on or after completing 80% <br />of the scheduled clock hours of the course and prior to the last <br />scheduled date of the course, or (2) been administratively <br />withdrawn from a course by the school due to the school <br />imposing student sanctions resulting from the student violating <br />school policies. Students who receive a WE grade are subject to <br />the Course Withdraw and Incomplete Charge policy stated in this <br />catalog. A grade designation of W F: <br />• Contributes to a student's grade point average; <br />• Does not count as quarter credits units toward a students' <br />degree or diploma completion requirement; <br />Counts toward the total number of credits attempted when <br />determining full or part-time status; and <br />Counts toward total number of credits attempted for <br />determining the students Satisfactory Academic Progress. <br />INCOMPLETE (p <br />A grade designation of I indicates that a student was enrolled for a <br />course but did not complete the objectives and requirements of <br />the course. An I grade designation additionally Indicates that the <br />student was not in attendance at the conclusion of the course as <br />opposed to an F grade which Indicates that the student was in <br />attendance butfailed to complete the course objectives. Students <br />who receive an I grade are subject to the Course Withdraw and <br />Incomplete Charge pollcystated In this catalog. A grade <br />designation of I: <br />Contributes to a student's grade point average; <br />• Does not count as quarter credits units toward a students' <br />degree or diploma completion requirement; <br />• Counts toward the total number of credits attempted when <br />determining full or part-time status; and <br />• Counts toward total number of credits attempted for <br />determining the students Satisfactory Academic Progress. <br />Students who receive an Incomplete Grade (1) In all their enrolled <br />courses during a tern must notify the school that they Intend to <br />continue their studies and appeal to remain enrolled at the school <br />within the deadline of (1) thirty days after the end date of the <br />respective courses if the student Is a Non -Attendance Required <br />Student, or (2) fourteen days after the end date of the respective <br />courses If the student is an Attendance Required Student. The <br />school reserves the right to extend the aforementioned deadlines <br />in its sole and absolute discretion. Students who notify the school <br />that they intend to continue and appeal to remain enrolled at the <br />school must indicate so in writing by completing the applicable <br />forms provided by the school within the aforementioned <br />deadlines.
