STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS
REFERENCES
SADDLEBACK COLLEGE
QUAD IMPROVEMENTS + ADA UPGRADES
Saddleback College is committed to making their campus more accessible and have allocated funds
every year to continue to make those types of improvements to the campus.
Our Land Development Studio was awarded the project in the fall of 2019 and the scope included site
improvements for (8) separate portions of the campus where barriers to accessibility such as uplifting
panels and non -compliant slopes along an accessible path -of -travel needed to be addressed.
Two areas of the project developed beyond basic accessibility upgrades, the Quad at Student Services
and the Fine Arts Plaza. The original scope for the Quad included fixing various areas within the quad
but after walking it with the college they decided to pursue a more holistic change that would address
the accessibility issues but establish the Quad as the main student gathering space on campus. The
campus sits on a hillside and this was most evident at the Fine Arts Plaza where we had to work with
20FT of grade change between and existing bus stop and the path -of -travel the college wanted to
complete.
We prepared a couple of schematic designs for each area and after the college selected their preferred
layouts we prepared ROM pricing to make sure it would still work within the project's budget. The final
design for the quad utilizes a classic X pattern design with a large open lawn area bisected by two
crossing pathways. The new layout removes all the existing walkways that were just a patchwork with no
sense of order to a clean and organized collection of pathways that connect all the different entry points
while providing a large open space that students can use for a myriad of activities large and small. The
final design for the Fine Arts Plaza provided the necessary path of travel across the 20FT of elevation
change while also providing an improved sense of arrival for visitors attending a performance at the Fine
Arts Theatre. A new Grand Staircase draws people in from the drop-off and a series of 12-foot vide
accessible ramps will provide a connected path -of -travel while also allowing the college's maintenance
crew to navigate the plaza with their golf carts.
Little worked with D. Woolley & Associates on this project as they provided all ground survey and digital
mapping for the District.
21 CITY OF SANTA ANA: RFP NO: 20130
17- STREET TRIANGULAR PARK RESTORATION
