NUR 106-C. Advanced Medical -Surgical Nursing, <br />Clinical (7) <br />Correlated clinical experiences emphasize refinement <br />of clinical decision making, psychomotor skills, and <br />management of client care in professional nursing <br />practice. The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses <br />(QSEN) goals will be employed to identify alterations <br />for age appropriate patient -centered care. <br />NUR 106-L. Advanced Medical -Surgical Nursing, <br />Laboratory (1) <br />Educational activities to efficiently and accurately train <br />the students to learn and develop skills and judgement <br />for appropriate care focusing on the Advanced Medical <br />Surgical and Critical Care Clients. Students will receive <br />a variety of activities from trained nursing instructors <br />using role-playing and lifelike virtual environments to <br />enhance their clinical practice. Opportunities for <br />practicing select psychomotor skills will be provided <br />and the use of simulation will enhance the student's <br />critical thinking and clinical decision -making skills. <br />NUR 107, Transition to Professional Practice (3) <br />This course is a capstone course that examines the <br />transition of the student to the role of a professional <br />nurse. Emphasis is placed on contemporary issues and <br />management concepts, as well as comprehensive <br />review of legal and ethical issues are discussed with a <br />focus on personal accountability and responsibility. <br />NUR 330. Principles of Nursing (3) <br />This course applies major concepts from the liberal <br />arts and sciences to nursing interventions (physiologic, <br />communicative, behavioral, and environmental). RN <br />students will be introduced to the supervisorial nurse <br />role and its influence on health and illness within the <br />context of social, cultural, ethical and legal issues. The <br />course is designed to focus on the development of the <br />practicing RN to systematically analyze information <br />and recognize patterns of patient needs. This course is <br />writing intensive. <br />NUR 340. Health Assessment, Education and <br />Promotion (4) <br />This course provides the framework for the systematic <br />collection, organization, interpretation, integration, and <br />communication of data reflecting the health status of <br />individuals across the life cycle. This includes <br />assessment of mental status, basic psychosocial status, <br />functional health patterns, and physical assessment <br />skills. National health objectives provide the organizing <br />framework for promotion of health and reduction of <br />risks that impact individuals, families, aggregates, and <br />communities. Students identify, explore, plan, and <br />implement wellness teaching through development of <br />service learning projects that educate populations and <br />promote healthy behaviors. <br />NUR 410. Disease Process/Role of Nursing (4) <br />The human response to physiological disease processes <br />and the role that nursing plays in supporting patients <br />to achieve an optimal level of wellness. <br />Pathophysiological conditions that occur most <br />commonly across the lifespan will be examined from an <br />occurrence perspective to include genetic, acute, <br />chronic and rehabilitative conditions. <br />NUR 415. Ethical Decision Making (2) <br />This course examines the foundations of ethical <br />behavior within business and medical organization <br />structures. The course is designed to provide students <br />with the skills and knowledge needed to assess ethical <br />issues within a business or medical setting. The study <br />of social responsibility of business and individuals in <br />the decision making process and a focus on value <br />systems and their development and operations is also <br />covered. <br />NUR 420. Nursing Research (2) <br />The significance of research in nursing is considered <br />with emphasis on the scientific approach and its <br />application in evidenced based nursing practice, <br />including e-health issues. The major components of the <br />research process are addressed with a focus on the <br />professional nurse as a consumer of research. Critical <br />thinking skills are emphasized in the analysis of <br />current nursing research. <br />NUR 421. Foundations of Nursing and Research (3) <br />This course is designed for students who are entering <br />the Family Nurse Practitioner Program (FNP) at Pacific <br />College and who have a baccalaureate degree outside of <br />nursing. Students will be introduced to the supervisory <br />nurse role and its influence on health and illness within <br />the context of social, cultural, ethical, and legal issues. <br />Additionally, the student will be introduced to nursing <br />research and its importance in nursing, especially the <br />impact on clinical practice. Research is a major force in <br />nursing, creating changes in practice, education, and <br />health policy. This course will enhance the student's <br />knowledge of research, and teach the student to read, <br />analyze, and synthesize research so evidence can be <br />used to make changes in clinical practice. <br />Pacific College 2020-2021 Catalog 105 <br />
