NUR 552. Advance Health Care and Health <br />Promotion of Adults and Elderly (3) (144 practicum <br />hours) <br />Emphasizes comprehensive assessment and <br />management of common acute health problems seen in <br />Adults and Elderly. Focuses on the primary care of the <br />individual and family within a culturally diverse <br />environment. Course content addresses comprehensive <br />diagnosis and management of common health <br />problems, including appropriate diagnostic procedures, <br />laboratory tests and follow up care for patients with <br />both acute and chronic conditions. <br />NUR 553. Advanced Health Care and Health <br />Promotion of Women and Children (3) (144) <br />practicum hours) <br />Emphasizes comprehensive assessment and <br />management of common acute health problems seen in <br />women and children. Focuses on the primary care of <br />the individual and family within a culturally diverse <br />environment. Course content includes reproduction, <br />pregnancy, contraception, growth and development, as <br />well as health promotion and health maintenance for <br />women and children. Clinical practice is performed <br />under supervision by a faculty instructor and <br />individual preceptor. <br />NUR 555. Advanced Health Care and Health <br />Promotion of Vulnerable Populations (3) (144 <br />practicum hours) <br />Examination and application of evidence based practice <br />in the care of vulnerable populations. Focus is in the <br />developing an understanding of the social <br />determinants impacting the health of underserved <br />communities. Students will examine the influence of <br />implicit bias on disease diagnosis treatment, <br />management and evaluation. This course emphasizes <br />community health promotion, intervention and <br />organizing. <br />NUR 559. Integrated Primary Care Practicum (3) <br />(144 practicum hours) <br />Integrated clinical practicum and scholarly activities <br />designed to develop competence in the family nurse <br />practitioner with a selected population. (Final <br />practicum). <br />NUR 594. Culminating Experience I (1) <br />Students refine their research or evidence -based <br />practice proposal (chapters 1-3) developed in NUR 516 <br />Advanced Nursing Research and Biostatistics. A <br />presentation of the proposal is completed in Semester <br />3 intensive to advance to candidacy. <br />NUR 595. Culminating Experience II (1) <br />Students continue to refine their research or evidence - <br />based practice proposal (chapters 1-3) developed in <br />NUR 516 Advanced Nursing Research and Biostatistics, <br />and complete chapter 4. A presentation of the final <br />project proposal is completed in Semester 6 intensive <br />as partial fulfillment of their degree. <br />NUR 597. Special Topics in Advanced Nursing (1-6) <br />Special topics supportive of the specialty areas in the <br />Master of Science in Nursing program will be offered <br />on an occasional basis. This is a variable unit course of <br />one (1), two (2) or three (3) units. May be repeated for <br />credit as a topics course for a total of six (6) units. <br />Enrollment restricted to graduate nursing students. <br />NUR 599. Independent Study in Advanced Nursing <br />(1-6) <br />Independent research, study, special project <br />development and/or directed reading in an area <br />beyond what is directly covered in the nursing <br />program. This is a variable unit course of one (1), two <br />(2) or three (3) units. May be repeated for credit as an <br />independent study course for a total of six (6) units. <br />Enrollment restricted to graduate nursing students. <br />PHL 201. Critical Reasoning (3) <br />This course provides the basic tools for analytical <br />reasoning. Students will explore practical applications <br />of logic. A variety of reasoning skills from verbal <br />argument analysis to formal logic, visual and statistical <br />reason, scientific methodology, and creative thinking <br />will be introduced. <br />PSY 101. General Psychology (3) <br />This course is a scientific consideration of the <br />psychological foundations of behavior. It will <br />investigate psychological development, motivation, <br />sensation, perception, learning, thinking, language, <br />psychological measurement, and principles of mental <br />illness and mental health. <br />PSY 102. Human Growth and Development (3) <br />This course explores the different stages of human life, <br />beginning with prenatal and progressing through <br />infancy, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. <br />Human development is explored from the <br />psychological point of view. <br />SOC 100. Introduction to Sociology (3) <br />This course analyzes human societies and <br />relationships through a study of cultural origins, <br />personality development, social interaction, and <br />social change. <br />110 2020-2021 Catalog Pacific College <br />
