VN 110. Fundamentals (10) <br />This course is designed to provide the learner with the <br />fundamental nursing concepts necessary for client - <br />centered care. Areas of study include introduction to <br />Vocational Nursing practice; health care delivery <br />system; introduction to anatomy and physiology; <br />nursing process; hygiene and infection control; safety <br />and emergency response; legal, ethical aspects of care; <br />therapeutic communication; culturally congruent care; <br />growth and development; care of the older adult; basic <br />nutrition; and, fluid & electrolyte balance. <br />VN 110-C. Fundamentals Clinical (4.5) <br />This course introduces the learner to evidenced -based <br />practices through demonstration and return - <br />demonstration of nursing skills required for a safe and <br />quality client -centered care. <br />VN 120. Introduction to Pharmacology, Pediatrics, <br />and Medical/Surgical(9) <br />This course provides the learner the opportunity to <br />understand the basics of pharmacology and a basic <br />introduction to Pediatric Nursing. Areas of study also <br />include peri-operative care, as well as care of clients <br />with integumentary, musculoskeletal & gastrointestinal <br />disorders. <br />VN 120-C. Introduction to Pharmacology, <br />Pediatrics, and Medical/Surgical Clinical (4) <br />This is an evidenced -based practice course where <br />learners provide client -centered care to address the <br />medical/surgical needs of adults and pediatric clients. <br />VN 130. Medical/Surgical 2 (8) <br />This course covers the care of adult clients with <br />medical -surgical needs specifically those with <br />endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, hematologic, <br />and immunologic disorders. Professional behavior, <br />leadership, supervision, teamwork, and informatics are <br />also incorporated in the course. <br />VN 130-C. Medical/Surgical 2 Clinical (5) <br />This is an evidenced -based practice course where <br />learners apply the concepts of teamwork and <br />collaboration in caring for clients with medical/surgical <br />and psychosocial needs. <br />VN 140. Medical/Surgical 3 & Maternity (7) <br />This course is about caring for adults with medical - <br />surgical needs specifically those with respiratory, <br />cardiovascular, urinary, and reproductive disorders. <br />Maternal and newborn nursing concepts are also <br />discussed. <br />VN 140-C Medical/Surgical 3 & Maternity Clinical <br />(5) <br />This is an evidenced -based practice course where <br />learners provide client -centered care to adults with <br />medical -surgical needs. Care of women during <br />pregnancy, labor and delivery, and post-partum period <br />as well as care of newborns are also included. <br />VN 150, Medical/Surgical 4, Pediatrics, Leadership <br />& Mental Health (8.5) <br />This course gives the student the opportunity to apply <br />the concepts of nursing process, growth and <br />development, client education, and leadership & <br />supervision in the clients with complex needs across <br />the life span. Neurologic, and sensory disorders are <br />also covered. Care of clients with mental health needs <br />is also discussed. <br />VN 150-C. Medical/Surgical 4, Pediatrics, <br />Leadership & Mental Health Clinical (4) <br />This course is the practical application of care concepts <br />for clients with complex needs across the life span with <br />emphasis on nursing leadership and mental health <br />needs of clients. <br />NUR 220. American Medical Corpsman and Medics <br />Transition to Vocational Nurse (3) <br />This course is designed as a dynamic review of the <br />content covered in the NCLEX-PN, the exam for the <br />California licensed vocational nurse. Through weekly <br />review and discussion students will master content <br />including the human lifespan development, health <br />promotion and disease prevention, foundations of <br />mental health, management of care, safety and patient <br />basic care, pharmacology and IV therapies, monitoring <br />health problems, and physiological health problems. <br />Students will be given the opportunity to learn the <br />blueprint of the NCLEX-PN and test taking strategies <br />for success.
