The historic character of a property shall be retained and preserved. The removal <br />of historic materials or alteration of features and spaces that characterize a <br />property shall be avoided. <br />The project complies with Standard No. 2. The historic character of the subject <br />property will be retained and preserved. The proposed alterations are designed to <br />remove as little historic material as possible, and will be located towards the rear <br />of the structure. In addition, an existing wood window along the rear elevation will <br />be retained and repurposed along the south elevation. The proposed alterations <br />are not visible from the street and are designed to be compatible and feature <br />similar wood windows, trim, and wood siding. The proposed exterior alterations will <br />not alter the primary west (front) elevation, or any important spatial relationships <br />that characterize the property. <br />3. Each property will be recognized as a physical record of its time, place, and use. <br />Changes that create a false sense of historical development, such as adding <br />conjectural features or elements from other historic properties, will not be <br />undertaken. <br />The project complies with Standard No. 3. The proposed changes will not create <br />a false sense of historical development. The proposed alterations would not <br />include any new square footage. Instead, the alterations would include the <br />reconfiguration of the rear elevation. The alterations are designed to be compatible <br />with the existing single-family residence and the distinctive architectural features <br />of the Tudor Revival style. Therefore, the architectural treatment will read as <br />complementary, not conjectural. <br />4. Changes to a property that have acquired historic significance in their own right <br />will be retained and preserved. <br />Standard 4 does not apply as the project will not remove any significant features <br />that were added over time. <br />5. Distinctive features, finishes, and construction techniques or examples of <br />craftsmanship that characterize a property shall be preserved. <br />The project complies with Standard No. 5. Distinctive materials, features, finishes, <br />and construction techniques or examples of craftsmanship that characterize the <br />property will be preserved. The project does not propose to remove character- <br />defining features or materials/finishes along the primary elevation.
