City of Santa Ana
Local Signal Synchronization Plan
City plans to relocate the existing Main TMC facility and systems into the Annex Building. This
will allow the City to decommission the existing Remote TMC (RTMC) and centralize its traffic
operations and related systems within a new Main TMC. The new Main TMC is to be relocated
to the same floor space and operations area as all traffic engineering personnel.
The TMC systems communicate to the entire traffic network through seventeen (17) separate
fiber optic legs. Each cable is terminated on 1 of 3 FDUs (Fiber Distribution Units) housed in the
TMC server racks. These (17) communication legs are all landed on a Layer 3 Ethernet Switch
which acts as the central gateway on the network. An image of the TMC equipment room is
shown in Figure 4.
VLjgtl
ea
Figure 4 — City of Santa Ana TMC Equipment Room
with the City's future plans to move the Main TMC into the Annex Building, allowing the City to
decommission the Remote TMC, an opportunity exists for upgrading these systems rather than
attempting to move and re -use them.
Page 9 9023
City Council 28 — 63 6/20/2023
