• Completion of or enrollment in an accredited college <br />program in the United States, or <br />• TOEFL paper test score of at least 550 (47 for the 2017 <br />revised paper based test) or TOEFL IBT (Internet Based Test) <br />of at least 65, or <br />• IELTS minimum Band Score of 5, or <br />• iTEP minimum score of 3.5, or <br />• A certificate indicating an intermediate ESL program was <br />successfully completed at an institution approved by <br />government agency or a recognized accrediting agency. <br />ADMISSIONS OF THOSE NOT SEEKING A DEGREE <br />OR DIPLOMA <br />Students wishing to take specific courses but not wanting to <br />pursue a degree or diploma must complete an application for <br />admission. Students must meet the same academic qualifications <br />as those applying fora regular program or cannot be admitted. <br />DISTANCE EDUCATION AVAILABILITY <br />Programs offered entirely through distance education are <br />available to residents of the following states: California. <br />TRANSFER CREDIT & ADVANCED STANDING <br />TRANSFER OF CREDIT TO SCIT <br />If a student has credit from courses completed at any other <br />accredited academic institution, they may request their official <br />transcripts to be mailed directly to the SCIT Education <br />Department from the respective academic institution in order to <br />be evaluated for the awarding of transfer credit toward courses in <br />their Academic Plan. Students may request for transfer credit <br />award both prior to and during their enrollment at the school. The <br />SCIT Education Department evaluates each transfer credit request <br />on a case by case basis and is based on how recent the course(s) <br />were completed, whether or not the course(s) are sufficiently <br />thorough and relevant, and if it can be demonstrated that the <br />student completed the course satisfactorily. The SCIT Education <br />Department may require the student to complete an examination <br />if it cannot determine In Its sole and absolute discretion that any <br />of the abovementioned criteria were met for the awarding of <br />transfer credit. The school will maintain a written record of any <br />previous education used to award transfer credit to the student <br />and the school will notify the student if and when transfer credit <br />is awarded. If transfer credit is awarded, the student will not be <br />required to enroll In the course(s) for which they received transfer <br />credit and their program length may be reduced. l'he total costs <br />associated with the tuition, books, materials and fees for all <br />courses that the student receives transfer credit but has not yet <br />attempted will be reduced from the Total Cost of the students' <br />enrollment. Students must earn at least 50%of the credits <br />needed to graduate at the school. <br />TRANSFER OF CREDIT TO SCIT FOR VA STUDENTS <br />In accordance with the Code of Federal Regulation 21.4253(d)(3), <br />this institution will conduct and maintain a written record of any <br />evaluation of previous education and training for all veterans and <br />eligible persons, grant and record appropriate credit if merited, <br />Admissions <br />shorten the program proportionately consistent with the credit <br />received, and notify the VA and student accordingly. <br />NOTICE CONCERNING TRANSFERABILITY OF CREDITS AND <br />CREDENTIALS EARNED AT OUR INSTITUTION <br />The transferability of credits you earn at Southern California <br />Institute of Technology Is at the complete discretion of an <br />institution to which you may seek to transfer. Acceptance of the <br />degree or diploma you earn in your educational program is also at <br />the complete discretion of the Institution to which you may seek <br />to transfer. If the credits or degree or diploma that you earn at <br />this institution are not accepted at the institution in which you <br />seek to transfer, you may be required to repeat some or all of <br />your coursework at that institution. For this reason you should <br />make certain that your attendance at this Institution will meet <br />your educational goals. This may include contacting an institution <br />to which you may seek to transfer after attending Southern <br />California Institute of Technology to determine if your credit or <br />degree or diploma will transfer, <br />EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING CREDIT <br />Experience related to your field of study that you wish to obtain <br />experiential learning credit for must be substantially equivalent to <br />course material offered by SCIT and will be judged entirely on <br />documentation showing the experiential learning substantially <br />meets the objectives of the course, is equivalent in length, and Is <br />completely and adequately documented. Acceptable <br />documentation includes: (1) Awritten description of the <br />experiences with work product documents, (2) Estimated total <br />hours of life/work experience supported by documentation, (3) <br />Notarized documentation from your field supervisor(s) attesting <br />to the experience, (4) Military DD214 to document your <br />experience. The faculty evaluating the learning experience will <br />prepare a report indicating: (1) the documents in the student file <br />on which the faculty member relied upon to determine the nature <br />of the student's prior learning, (2) The basis for determining that <br />the experience is equivalent to college level learning and <br />demonstrates a balance between theory and practice, (3) The <br />basis for determining to what college level the experience is <br />equivalent and the proper number of units awarded. If testing Is <br />required, an equivalent to the course final will be given at a cost <br />of $100 per exam, as required. Prospective applicants who would <br />like to appeal any denial of experiential learning credit may do so <br />in a written letter stating the reason for the appeal and include <br />additional documents that may aid in the evaluation of the <br />appeal. Experiential learning credit appeals are reviewed by the <br />Dean of Education and may only be made once for each course <br />the applicant seeks to obtain credit. The Dean of Education makes <br />all Rica I determinations to grant or deny experiential learning <br />credit. <br />LATE ADMISSION <br />Classes start on the date indicated In the Academic Calendar. Late <br />starts (starts that begin after the first class meeting) are <br />considered on an individual basis after assessing the student's <br />ability to complete any missed work. However, students will not <br />be allowed to enter a class after the Add/Drop period without the <br />permission of the Director of Admissions. <br />Page 9 of 69 <br />
