Building Community <br />Efforts <br />Seek grants and partnership opportunities <br />from local, state, federal, and nonprofit <br />partners to continue and expand strategic <br />investments that build community. Continue <br />to make strategic investments in parks, <br />recreation, access to healthy food, safe <br />routes to school, and other capital <br />improvements to improve resident health. <br />Annually & Ongoing The City partnered with an affordable housing developer to pursue an Affordable <br />Housing Sustainable Communities Grant for the construction of a 93-unit new affordable <br />housing project with active transportation infrastructure and transit amenities in 2019. <br />The City supported two affordable housing developers to apply for No Place Like Home <br />funding in partnership with the County of Orange for the construction of a 93-unit new <br />construction affordable housing project with 33 units of permanent supportive housing <br />and a 17-unit new construction project with 100%permanent supportive housing units. <br />The City supported two affordable housing developers to apply for Multifamily Housing <br />Program funding for the construction of a 93-unit new affordable housing project and an <br />89-unit project with 100%permanent supportive housing.These projects are still <br />underway as of December 2021.The first of five new outdoor fitness courts was installed <br />at Jerome Park.The City’s Community Garden Program continues to offer youth and <br />their families the training and motivation to adopt healthy food habits.Through a series of <br />workshops and hands on volunteer work at each of the five Community Garden sites, <br />families learn to work together and create a home based garden. Aquaponics is now <br />part of the gardening activities at the Roosevelt-Walker garden site.City staff are <br />planning special events and resources training to equip neighborhood leaders with tools <br />to strengthen opportunities and community /partnership building in their neighborhoods, <br />incluidng access to donations for expenses needed for such events.
