A complete list of <br />Independent Study Program Courses may be found at EMI Independent Study. <br />In addition to training activities aligned to and addressed in the IPP, all EMPG Program-funded personnel <br />(including full- and part-time SLTT recipients and subrecipients) must complete the following training <br />requirements and record proof of completion: <br />1) NIMS Training, Independent Study (IS)-100 (any version), IS-200 (any version), IS-700 (any <br />version), and IS-800 (any version)4, and; <br />2) Professional Development Series (PDS) or the Emergency Management Professionals Program <br />(EMPP) Basic Academy courses listed in the chart below. <br /> <br />PDS <br />Professional Development Series OR Basic Academy <br />Basic Academy Pre-requisites and Courses <br />IS-120.a: An Introduction to Exercises IS-100 (any version): Introduction to the <br />Incident Command System <br />IS-230.d: Fundamentals of Emergency <br />Management IS-700 (any version): National Incident <br />Management System (NIMS)-An Introduction <br />IS-235.b: Emergency Planning IS-800 (any version): National Response <br />Framework, An Introduction <br />IS-240.b: Leadership and Influence IS-230.d: Fundamentals of Emergency <br />Management <br />IS-241.b: Decision Making and <br />Problem Solving E/L101: Foundations of Emergency <br />Management <br />IS-242.b: Effective Communication E/L102: Science of Disasters <br />IS-244.b: Developing and Managing <br />Volunteers E/L103: Planning Emergency Operations <br />IS-244.b: Developing and Managing <br />Volunteers E/L104: Exercise Design <br />IS-244.b: Developing and Managing <br />Volunteers E/L105: Public Information & Warning <br />The EMI Basic Academy provides this foundational Emergency Management education. To ensure the <br />professional development of the emergency management workforce, the recipients must ensure a routine <br />capabilities assessment is accomplished and an IPP is developed and implemented. <br />Additional Training Information <br />Per FEMA Grant Programs Directorate Information Bulletin 432, Review and Approval Requirements for <br />Training Courses Funded Through Preparedness Grants, issued on July 19, 2018, states, territories, tribal <br />entities, and high-risk urban areas are no longer required to request approval from FEMA for personnel to <br />attend non-DHS FEMA training as long as the training is coordinated with and approved by the state, <br />territory, tribal, or high-risk urban area Training Point of Contact (TPOC) and falls within the FEMA <br />mission scope and the jurisdiction’s EOP. <br /> <br />4 NIMS training courses IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800 only need to be taken once to fulfill requirements. Also, <br />previous versions of the IS courses are still considered as meeting the NIMS training requirement.
