Criteria for Local Historic Districts <br />Joseph Edwards, Principal Planner, provided Commission with a comparison <br />survey with four different cities that have historical districts: Tustin, Berkeley, <br />San Diego and Pasadena. <br />Mr. Edwards requested a discussion to develop criteria for historic districts. <br />CRITERIA FOR LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICTS <br />Use district to regulate exterior improvements <br />Public improvements and infrastructure elements (setbacks, trees, curbs and <br />driveways, lights, etc. <br />Land Use Issues <br />Commercial vs. residential for redevelopment areas <br />Consistency with federal standards for districts <br />Consider SD's to address new development (overlays?) <br />Size of districts what is ap ro riate? <br />District would protect character, scale and development pattern <br />Support evolution of neighborhoods to district (e.g. Henninger Park <br />COMMENTS <br />7. Comments from Staff <br />Mr. Edwards noted at the next meeting: <br />• The Commission will be reviewing a draft form of the new information <br />packets. <br />• Staff will be presenting more properties to add to the Historic Register. <br />• Staff will provide information on how to proceed with joint discussions with the <br />Planning Commission for land use issues and possible amendments to <br />Chapter 30. <br />S.
