Alcala, Abigail
From: Lizbeth R <
Sent: Tuesday, March 19, 2024 3:30 PM
To: eComment
Subject: Public Comment on Agenda Item 24 - 3/19 Council Meeting
Amteiifl.Win, 'Hfis eu uffl nror Ona1n°n9 fug-mnz onut;n de o, 'Cu y oro'Sanm Anna. Use can fionn when opelfing aflac4gun enu s or finks.
Good afternoon,
My name is Lizbeth Ramirez, Resident of Santa Ana, and I am emailing to share my concerns about
the proposed ordinance NS-XXX which seeks to establish distance requirements for targeted
residential picketing. I understand the importance of maintaining peace and order in our community,
I believe this ordinance infringes on our constitutional rights to protest and free speech. It is our
fundamental right to peacefully assemble and voice our grievances on the state of issues that pertain
to us. The ability to speak upon and challenge the actions and policies of our local government is the
very essence of democracy. Imposing this ordinance disproportionately affects marginalized
communities and hinders their ability to advocate for change effectively and make their voices heard.
This ordinance sets a dangerous precedent by prioritizing convenience over constitutionally protected
rights. I urge the council members to reconsider this ordinance and explore alternative solutions that
uphold both public safety and our constitutional freedom.
Cordially,
Lizbeth Ramirez
SHS Student
1
