Alcala, Abigail
From: Celine Qussiny <
Sent: Tuesday, March 19, 2024 3:31 PM
To: eComment
Subject: Reject Agenda Item #24
Afteiinl.Win, Tl in eiyu it rror Onawd fig-oin onut;r de o, 'Ci y oro'Sanm Anna. Use caion when opel inn aflac4gur ews or, finks.
Hello City Council,
I am emailing you as a concerned constituent to urge you to reject agenda item 424.
It is clear that you do not stand with the demands of your constituents or with the masses of people around the world who are boldly calling for a
ceasefire, for freedom for the Palestinian people, and for an end to this genocide. This moment has exposed and made clear where each politician
stands.
The ordinance that you are proposing is meant to restrict people's protected right to protest. This ordinance comes on the hells of a series of protests
in front of Congressman Lou Correa's house due to his continued silence on the ongoing genocide in Gaza, which is affecting so many of his
constituents. Lou Correa, who relied on votes from our communities, has refused to listen to his constituents or respond to our demands. It is within
our right to protest, and any attempt to restrict that is completely unwarranted and outrageous.
The right to protest our elected officials' decisions, positions, and silence is sacred. In Santa Ana, these types of protest movements are part of the
fabric of the city's culture and have been the catalyst for major systemic policy changes for decades.
Residents protesting have made the city what it is today: a city that values and protects its immigrant residents, its tenants, its youth, and its workers.
However, since Mayor Valerie Amezcua's tenure at the city council, there has been a clear pattern by members of the council to curtail views they
don't life including: limiting public comments, pushing agenda items on which young people have shown up to spear on to later into the night, and
dismissing the results of the city's own budget surveys only because resident's responses didn't align with their world view.
This proposed ordinance follows this pattern and should be rejected.
REJECT AGENDA ITEM 424!
