Grubb, ky and the Clerk, On motion of Alderman duly seconded an~ carried, the contract for the paving of West ~ifth Street, from Artesia Street, to the West city limits was awarded to the Orandall Paving Oompany at 11 cents per square foot, and the president of the Board of Trustees ~e authorized to sign a contract. Ordinance No.~6,Electric Signs, was read and action was deferred. On motion of Orubb, seconded by McPhee and carried, the Oity Marshall is instructed to notify people in the city of Santa Ama who have electric signs to keep the same illuminated between the hours of seven P.M. and ten P.M. A comm. ittee appointed to investigate and report on the condition of Washington School ,submit the followin~ report: October 2,1~14 To the Honorable Board of Trustees, Gentlemen: In compliance with your order we the undersigned inspected the building known as the Washington ~chool, and found the following con- ditions:- The heatin~ and ventilating system is poor. The air which is heated and supplied to the rooms is taken ?rom the lower part of the furnace pit, instead of which, it should be taken entirely fro~ out of doors. Only two rooms of the up, er story are in good ~as ~t present, in one room 40 pupils,in the other E4. The stairways are narrow, at one landing only ~ft-2in, wide in the clea~. We would recommend the installation of a Modern heatin~ and ventilating system, and.one or two steel stairways on the outside of the building the doors leadtn$ to these stairways equipped with antipanic devices.
