Santa Aha, City Hall, <br /> <br />July 18th, 1918, 7;P.m. <br /> <br />Board met! in special called session. <br /> <br />The meeting! was called for the purpose of considering the construction of piers of the <br /> proposed bridge on North Main St. and for the purpose of taking any necessary action <br /> relative to said North Main St. bridge. <br /> <br />5am Jernigan,City Marshal filed a certificate certifying that he h~d served notice cn <br />Trustees ~.A.Greenleaf, Geo. McPhee,O.H.Maryatt, and J.W.Tubbs, at least three hours <br />previous ~o this meeting, and that he had made investigation for the purpose of serving <br />notice on'President A J~Vleel and found that he was absent from the 8tats by consent of <br />the Board:. <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by the Clerk, those present being, Trustees Tubbs,MoPhes, <br />Greenleaf!and Maryatt, Absent, President Vieel. <br /> <br />On motion, of Trustee Tubbs,duly seconded by MoPhee,Trustee Maryatt was a~pointed President <br />pro tem. <br /> <br /> The following communication from E.T.Flaherty, <br />In Re <br /> <br />Matters pSrtalnlng to N.Main Sa.bridge <br /> <br />Consulting Engineer and Inspector for building <br />North Main St. bridge, was read: <br /> <br /> "To the Hon.Board of Trustees <br /> City of Santa Aha, Calif. <br />Gentlemen:- <br /> Contractor MoNelll has finished the <br />excavation of Pier No.1 on the North Main St.brldg <br />to the required elevation Of 69.0 as shown on <br />the plane. ~fter reaching this required elevation <br />the writer had a test pit sunk a distance of ten <br />feet further and found five feet more of moist cla <br />and five feet of sand, gravel and large rock,in <br />lizee, ranging from small pebbles to one man stone <br />making it impraotlca~eto drive concrete piles. <br />In my opinion this last erratum of gravel and <br />boulders will make an excellent foundation f=r the <br />bridge and I recommend that the piling in this <br />pier be omitted and the foundation be continued <br />down to elevation 6].0 and that I be given instruc <br />ions to carry out the provisions of the epeoifica- <br />tlonl as contained in paragraph ], page 9 of the <br />General Provisions of the specifications. <br /> The balance of the piers and abutments <br />be treated as separate problems. <br /> Tov. r early attention in this matter is <br />requested. <br /> Yourl Respectfully, <br /> EDWARD T. FLA~ERT¥" <br /> <br />The above report and recommendation of changes wa <br />approved by Mr.~lank, Supervisor of Construction <br /> <br />of the P.E.Ry.Co. and on motion of Trustee MoPhee, <br />duly seconded by Trustee Tubbs and carried, Engines <br /> <br />Flaherty was authorized to have changes made as pr <br /> <br />vided for in his report. <br /> <br />A motion to adjourn by Trustee Greenleaf, was <br /> <br />Approved: <br /> <br />11 <br /> <br /> <br />
