<br /> amount of $6800.00,
<br />husband and wife,/for alleged flood damages to their property
<br />
<br />located n~ar the Santa Ana River, was referred to the City
<br />Attorney and Engineer for checking~
<br />

<br />The report of findings and recommendation of the Civil Servic,
<br />Commission in the matter of charges against H. E. Holmes, a
<br />classified employee of the Santa Ana Police Department, was
<br />read and on motion of Trustee Bruns, seconded by Smith and
<br />carried, it was decided to notify H. E. Holmes that the Coun-
<br />cil will take action on the facts and recommendation of the
<br />Civil Service Commission at the next regular meeting.

<br />On motion of Trustee Bruns, seconded by Smith and carried,
<br />the report of the Police Department for the month of Septem-
<br />ber, was received and filed.
<br />
<br />Communication of J. C. Metzgar and petition of parents of
<br />carrier boys requesting repeal or modification of Ordinance
<br />No. 1055 which prohibits the distribution of handbills, etc.
<br />were read and referred to the Council as a whole by the Mayor
<br />On motion of Trustee. Smith, seconded by Bruns and carried,
<br />it was decided that the Council as a whole make a report on
<br />communications and petitions with reference to the handbill
<br />ordinance at the next regular meeting, November 7th, 1938.

<br />fornia Edison Co. Ltd., was amended~by

<br />A substitute motion/was made by Trustee Smith, seconded by
<br />
<br />Bruns and .carried, to adopt the following Ordinance entitled:
<br />
<br /> "Ordinance granting to Southern California Edison Company,
<br /> Ltd., its successors and assigns, a franchise to use, for
<br /> transmitting and distributing electricity and electrical
<br /> energy within the City of Santa Ana, for any and all pur-
<br /> poses other than those authorized under Section 19 of
<br /> Article XI of the Constitution of the State of California
<br /> as said Section existed prior to its amendment on October
<br /> 10, 1911, all poles, wires, conduits and appurtenances
<br /> which are now or may hereafter be lawfully placed in the
<br /> public streets, alleys, ways and places Within said City
<br /> and to construct and use in said public streets, alleys,
<br /> ways and places all poles, wires, conduits and appurten-
<br /> ances necessary or proper for said purposes. #

<br />The Ordinance was read, considered, designated Ordinance No.
<br />106~ and pa~eed by the following vote:
