A petition was read containing thirteen signatures of property owners in the immediate vicinity of 1045 W. Highland requesting that investigation be made as to unsanitary conditions and fire hazard. On recommendation of the committee and on motion of Trustee Mandy seconded by Reed and carried, the bid of Sully-Miller Contracting Co. was accepted covering improvement of E. Fourth St. from Southern Pacific Railroad to East City Limits, in the amount of ~23,654.94,, On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Chandler and carried, the reports for the month of August, 1948, submitted by Judge,s office Building Inspector, Police Department and Juvenile Bureau, were received and filed. On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Reed and carried, the demands, as audited by the Finance Committee, were approved and Clerk authorized to draw warrants covering demands numbering 622 to 1035 inclusive. . On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Chandler and carried, the recomendation of the Planning Commission granting a variance to Louis and Bessie Bmaasch to reduce the front yard requirement on all lots in Tract No. 1255 from 60 to 55 feet from the center line of Linwood Avenue, this Tract ~consisting of lots fronting on that portion of Linwood Avenue lying between Sixth and Fruit Streets, was approved and application granted. On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Chandler and carried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission granting a variance to Register Publishing Company to permit a commercial building to extend into the rear yard on a parcel of land between -Fifth and Sixth Streets on the east side of Sycamore Street, this parcel .being described as Lot 6 and the northerly 9.28 feet of Lot 3 in Block 19, was approved and application granted. .
