All gate valves shall be of the size as indicated on <br />the plans and shall have a cast iron body with hub ends,bronze <br />seats, single disc, bronze stem with a 2 inch square nut on th~ <br />stem and must withstand a working pressure of 150 pounds per <br />square inch. The hub ends of the valves must ~e of such di- <br />mensions that a Standard Class "B" cast iron pipe can be in- <br />serted with ample space to make a proper lead joint. <br /> <br /> All valves must be of first class material and work- <br /> throu~hout and of Standard make and shall open to the <br /> <br />mauship <br />left. <br /> <br /> (d) FIRE HYDBANT: <br /> <br /> All fire hydrants she]] be Keystone Fire ~ydrants <br />with ~ c,st iron column ~nd bury piece h~vlnm an internal dia- <br />meter of 8 inches. Tbs bury p~ece sh~ll be S8 inbhes long w~ <br />a bell elbow ~nd foot piece all in one casting and shall also <br />have a standard flange on the upper end to bolt to valve col- <br /> <br /> All hydrants shall be either 2 or 3 way h2drants as <br />indicated on the plans with 2~ inch hose connection Pacific <br />Coast Thread. All valves must open to the left and be provi- <br />ded with the standard sized pentagon nut on the valve stem or <br />the stem shall be milled to s standard pentagon. <br /> <br /> The bury piece and valve column flanges must be <br />faced and drilled so that the hydrant can be set with the hose <br />ou*lets at a 45 degree angle to the street. The wives must <br />open full and close silently. <br /> <br /> Tbs v,]ves, column and bury piece must be first <br />lity material and workmanship ttrou~hout. <br />SECTION ~. EXCAVATION. <br /> <br /> (a) ALIGNmeNT AND GRADE. The alignment grid grade <br />shall be es shown on the plans and profiles. The sub-grade <br />shall be the exterior bottom of the pipe. The grade line <br />shown ou the profile is the invert or interior bottom of the <br />pipe. The excavation shall be made sufficient distance below <br />the grade llne to ~]low for the placin~ of the sewer invert <br />and the concrete foundation if such found,tlon is shown on the <br />plgn or ~rofile. Shoudl the trench be excavated to g depth <br />greater than required, the contractor shall refl]l such excess <br />excavation with screened Fravel wblch sh~ll be tamped until <br />solid. <br /> <br /> (b) ~I~T~ OF TRMWC~. The trench s~a]l be excavated <br />~t least twelve (12) ioches greater iu width than tbs outside <br />diameter of the pipe to be l~id and at least six (6) inches <br />clearance shall be allowed on each side of the pipe. <br /> <br /> (c) EXCAVATED ~ATERIAL. The earth taken from the <br />trench shall be deposited neatly along the sides in a manner <br />such as not to obstruct the street more than is necessary and <br /> <br />umn. <br /> <br /> <br />
