The tests for concrete pipes shall include the following:

(1) ~and Bea~ Crushing Test.

(2) Hydrostatic Pressure Test.

(3) Abso~tion Test.

The Superintendent of Streets shall select at random for tes6n~ purposes one length
of pipe for each two hundred (200) feet, or fraction thereof, of each size of pipe to be laid,
the minimmn number of specimens to be tested to be six (6) for each select]on of each size
of pipe.

The pipe selected for testing purposes shall be deilvered by the Contractor when and
where directed. The cost of this pipe, of its transportation and of the tests as specified
herein~ shail be borne by the Contractor.

The number of pipe to be tested for the Sand Bearing Crushing Test and the Hydro-
static Pressure Test shall be et least three ($~ for each of these tests and for each
eelectlo~ of each size of pipe`

Whenever the length of each size of pipe to be laid is more than twelve hundred (1~0)
feet, that number of pipe which most closely represents fifty-one (51) per cent of the
specimens selected shall be tested for crushing strength and the remainder of the speci.
mens shall be tested for hydrostatic pressure.

~Fhe number of pipe to be tested for absorption shail be the same number is are
tested for crushing strength, and the pipe to be used for the absorption test shall be
selected from these pipes which have met the requirements in the first selection.
In making any of the three (3) tests above mentioned, the number of pipes to be tested
in the second selection of pipe, as hereinafter specified, shall be five ($~ for each pipe
that fails to meet the requirements in the first selection.

If in talking any one of thc three tests above mentioned eighty (80) per cent or more
of the specimens tested meet the reclulrements imposed by that test, all of the pipe in the
shipment or delivery corresponding to thc sizes so tested shall be considered as complying
with that test.
If, however, more than twenty (20~ per cent of the specimens tested fail to meet the
requirements of that test, a second selection of pipe shall be m~de for that test.
If eighty (80) per cent or more of the pipe selected including those first selected,
meet the requirements of that test, all of the pipe corresponding to the sizes so tested
shall be considered as complying with that test, otherwise all pipe of these sizes will be
rejected.
Unless otherwise specified herei~, the specimens shall be sound pipe, having dimensions
consistent with these specifications which pipe shall, before testing, be freed hum ail
visible moisture. When so freed from moisture, each specimen shail be measured and
inspected, and the resaits of the observations shall be recorded by the Superintendent of
Streets.
(1~ ,~ND BEARING CRUSHING TEST. The load shall be applied at a uniform
rate of about two thousand (2000~ pounds per minute or in increments of not more than
one hundred (100~ pounds at the same rate.
The pipe shall not be allowed to stand under the load longer than is required to apply
the loud and to observe and record it.
