CITY COUNCIL 0~_.~' T~, CITY O...EF SANTA ANA <br /> <br /> ~HEREAB, on December 7, 1941, the country of Japan waged a ruth- <br /> less attack on Pearl Harbor, one of the United States possessions, thus <br /> resulting in our entire country being plunged into a world war for the <br /> survival of its very existence,' our free and cherished democratic way <br /> of life put in Jeopardy, and thousands of our boys sacrificing their' <br /> lives in order that our country and the lives of our loved ones will <br /> be safeguarded, and <br /> <br /> WHEEF_~B, there wet& large numbers of Japanese residing and work- <br /> ing on the Pacific Coast at the time War was forced on the American <br /> people ~ and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the interest of the safety of our people as well as <br /> <br /> a precaution against sabotage of our vital war plants, otc, the Japan- <br /> <br /> ese reeiding on the Pacific Coast were placed in Japanese Re-location <br />~ Centers for their safety as well as our own, and <br /> <br /> ~HEREAB, upon authoritative sources, it is reported that a move <br /> is on foot to return the Japanese, now stationed in Japanese Re-loca- <br /> <br /> · tion Centers, t° their former pre-war homes and places of business, and <br /> <br /> W~REAS, there are great numbers of mis-informed citizens who are <br /> sympathetic to the American-born Japanese, to the extent that they are <br /> in favor of returning the Japanese even though many of the same Ameri- <br /> can-born Japanese were found to have numerous contraband articles in <br /> their homes upon evacuation, and <br /> <br /> VgHEREA~, in the interim of time that has elapsed since the Jap- <br /> anewe have been removed from the Coastal area, a dire hatred is ob- <br /> viously in evidence, a~hatred, in fact that is growing hourly due to <br /> recent developments in the War~ and <br /> <br /> WN~REAS, there are great numbers of the Army, Navy, and Marines <br /> having been in actual combat with the Jape, stationed on the Pacific <br /> Coast, and <br /> <br /> WBE~AS, the presence of Japanese, american born or otherwise~ <br /> around those of our armed forces would endanger the lives of the Jap- <br /> <br />anese, and <br /> <br /> <br />
