RESOLUTION N0.3V64 RESOLUTION PROTESTING GR~NT~G OF THE PETITION ~ND APPLICATION OF THE PACIFIC ELECTRIC RAIL- WAY COMPANY, ~ CORP0~TION, FOR AUTHORITY TO DISCONTIhr~rE P~SSENGER SERVICE ON ITS LINE THROUGH S~d~TAANA, CALIFORNIA, AND MAINTAIN SAID LINE FOR FREIGHT MOVEI~NT ONLY. WHEREAS, heretofore the Pacific Electri~ Railway Company, a corporation, filed with the Public Utilities Commission of the State of California, an application petitioning and praying for authoriza- tion to discontinue railway passenger service over the rail line now existing between Los Angeles and Santa Aha, and maintain said rails for the movement of freight only - - Paragraph IV, A, 2 and to sub- stitute thi~ service only between Los Angeles and Santa Ana on pre- sent augmented motor coach lines; and WHER~S, the County of Orange between Santa Ana and Los Angeles is a rapidly growing residential area largely dependent upon the pas- senger line proposed to be discontinued, as the sole mass transporta- tion agency to and from the City of Santa Ana and the City of Los _~ngeles; and W~!EREAS, the'population of the City of Santa Ana iB rapidly increasing, and the population of the area between Santa Ana and Los _~ngeles is rapidly increasing, and many of these new residents have employment in the Cit~ of Santa Aha or the City of Los Angeles; and WHERE~, an increasing number of citizens will be adversely effected by the discontinuance of said passenger railway service; and ~tEREAS, the increasingly acute parking situation in the said metropolitan areas will continually place a greater burden upon mass transportation agencies. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of Santa Aha, a municipal corporation of the fifth class, in the County of Orange, State of California, hereby protests the proposed discontinuance of railway passenger service as hereinabove set forth and as petitioned for by the Pacific Electric Railway 0ompany~ and -1-
