This Ordinance shall be known es the ~'Building <br /> Zone Ordinance"; and for the purposes of this Ordinance t~e <br /> following explanations and definitions of words, terms and <br /> phrases shall govern unless the context thereof clearly indi- <br /> cates a different meaning. <br /> <br /> (a) Words used in t}~e present tense include the future; <br /> the singular number includes the plural, and t~:e plural the <br /> sihgular; the word "lot" includes t~e word "plot"; and the word <br /> "building" includes the word "structure" <br /> <br /> (b) A lot if any piece, of laud fronting on a street as <br />provided in this Ordinance, the descrirtion of which is filed' <br />with the Bui!din~ Inspector, regardless of plats recorded in <br />the office of the County Recorder. The "depth of a lot" is <br />the'mean distance from the street line of the lot to its rear <br />line measured between the centers of. the end lines of the lot. <br />A "corner lot" is a lot bounded on two sides by public'streets <br />provided that, for this purpose, no str;et, alley, court or <br />open space less than forty feet in width shall be deemed a <br />public street. <br /> <br /> (c) A "rear yard" is an open, unoccupied space on the same <br /> lot with and immediately behind a building, and wherever re- <br /> q~ired shall extend the full width of the lot. <br /> <br /> (d) A "single family dwelling" is a dwelling for one family <br /> alone, having but one kitchen and within wR:ich not more than <br /> five persons may be lodged for hire at one time. <br /> <br /> (e) The word "use" means the purpose for which the building <br />is designed, arranged, or intended, or for which it is or may <br />be occupied or maintained. <br /> <br /> (f) BUILDING: The word "Building" means a structure for <br />the support, shelter or enclosure of persons, animals or <br />chattels; and when separated by division walls of masonry <br />from t~e ground up and without openings, then each portion of <br />such shall be deemed a separate building. <br /> <br /> <br />
