Number <br /> <br /> I. Target Group Description <br />A. Check the type of target group this project will provide services to: <br /> <br /> Adults Dislocated Workers Youth (14-18)[~ Youth (19-21) [~ <br /> <br />B. Describe the specific target group and service area your project will serve. <br /> <br />The Santa Ana WORK Center Dropout Recovery Program will target young people age 17 to <br />21 who have left the educational system and are residents of Orange County. <br /> <br /> II. Scope of Work <br />A. Description of the project. <br /> <br />The Santa Ana WORK Center as a "Jobs for California's Graduates" affiliate will implement a <br />Dropout Recovery Program that will target youth who have left the educational system. Staff <br />will recruit 6 new youth participants with the purpose of getting them to return to school, <br />enrolling in GED preparation classes, enroll in occupational skills training and/or become <br />employed. In addition, staff will provide follow up services to an existing caseload of 20 youth <br />participants. <br /> <br />B. Description of the specific services to be provided. <br /> <br />Program staff will refer the youth to local non-profit organizations and/or local community <br />college for basic skills and GED preparation classes. Participants will also receive as <br />appropriate subsidized work experience including internships and job shadowing, career <br />assessment, referrals and assistance in enrolling in occupational skills training and <br />leadership development activities that will assist in developing positive work and social <br />behavior, basic life and soft skills, comprehensive counseling toward developing a career <br />plan, supportive services, mentoring and follow up services. A Major component of'the <br />Dropout Recovery Program will be group focus workshops focusing on the attainment of <br />competencies identified by Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG). This project will focus on <br />teaching 37 competencies with the option to add additional competencies depending upon <br />the needs of the youth enrolled in the program. Staff assigned to this grant will be trained on <br />the JAG curriculum and will conduct the workshops. Examples of what competencies will be <br />taught are: interpersonal skills, making career decisions, preparing resumes, interviewing, <br />using labor market information, positive attitudes and behaviors, maintaining regular <br />attendance, being consistently punctual, presenting and appropriate appearance, leadership <br />skills, and helping youth to see themselves as successful, positive and contributing members <br />our community. <br /> <br />]5 <br /> <br /> <br />
